Music Mixing
#1 Posted 01 September 2016 - 03:03 PM
Within the past year I've gotten into DJing and making mixes of music. Let's have a thread dedicated to sharing mixes we make or find.
I'll start with a masterpiece of a mix that inspired me quite a bit.
I've also made some of my own.
Socks & Shoes - Several varieties of upbeat drum & bass.
System Fault - Psytrance that I played at apocalyptic-themed event.
Confidence - "Deep" drum & bass.
If you like these I can PM you MP3s.

I think I can say Post-Rock is one of my favorite genres. My inner experiences with it are quite unique, in comparison with other genres.
Oh btw, I liked your mixes =]

Interesting stuff. My main problem is I'm not familiar with the original music that forms the base of most mixes. So its hard for me to determine how talented the mixer is if I don't know how much is their creation and how much is the original track.
Here is a mix in a different sense. I took the 23 raw tracks of drums, bass, guitars, vocals from a band and mixed them down to a stereo output. I'm not quite finished but I'll post it anyway. I did stuff like EQ some tracks, or add some compression, adjust levels, panning, etc.. I still need to fine tune the singer because he has a bad habit of changing volume as he sings. You can hear him fade away every now and then. And in case anyone was wondering, I'm using Audacity to do this stuff. A great free program.

Nice work, Hendricks!
It's not mixing in the sense of DJ-ing, but I did a remix for one of my friend's remix albums. He and a few of us made remixes from one of his other albums.

Here's the original track from the non-remix album, which was quite minimalistic. My personal challenge was to take that and make it as interesting as I could.

Both albums are free.

This is hopefully my final mix of the song I posted here from Sept of 2016. I EQ'ed the high end of rhythm guitars to bring them up a little, boosted the lead guitar level, evened out the high and low levels of the lead vocal track, lowered the level of the chorus backround vocals and a few other very minor things I don't recall right now.

The song is called Promises and Lies

I've made a really bad mix of OG heavy metal VGM five years ago (holy crap the time sure passes quickly). I used to be quite proud of it, and I still think the song selection is not too bad, but definitely should give more attention to picking higher-quality sources... https://soundcloud.c...heavy-metal-mix

After listening to that first kick-ass song I quickly browsed through the rest of. Good stuff in there. I'll have to give it a longer listen.

Thanks for the kind words!
Below some mixes of demoscene and video game music that I really, really like (as in they're permanently etched into my clip+ memory...)
Mix of fantasy music from Merregnon project incl. folks like Purple Motion, Allister Brimble (Alien Breed!), Fabian Del Priore (Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams) etc.
Classic MS-DOS games music via Roland LAPC-I soundcard!
https://www.youtube....h?v=jGFwOpZ_P18
mix of tunes by Machinae Supremacy, the "SID metal" band from Sweden, their new material sucks major balls, but this mix is like 90% their classic material, you *need* to hear their Pinball Dreams medley!
https://www.youtube....h?v=Q62UFv4QiUo
various interesting FM synth tunes from games, selected by JP Le Breton
and something very different and more exotic, I guess?
selection of odd and rare 80's electronic tunes from Poland (think of it as "electro from beyond the Iron Curtain")
