Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour

I agree $15 sounds about right. Still, you don't want to rely too much on steam discounts to get the sales up. If the initial price is ridiculously over the top then bad word of mouth is going to spread and people will stay away.

I expect it to go on sale much earlier, say, in one or two months, the game wasn't even in top sellers after announcement if I recall correctly.

But why would it be? It's a digital preorder without any sort of preorder bonuses or price cuts. There is, as far as I can see, absolutely no incentive to preorder rather than buy on release.
They won't run out of stock, and you'd hardly need to preload with a game this size.

Most of the time even old games tend to be in top during preorder state, although you have a point too about bonuses, but I'm not sure if most of people care about these. I think I saw even Battleborn in top before game release which had no bonuses or any kind of discount if I'm not mistaken (I don't think Steam count key confirmation as purchase on their store). I bet $20 Megaton would be in top if DD went with preorders, the people were hyped for Megaton and most of the people are quite negative towards WT release right now, just look at Steam community discussion alone. They either hate the price, lack of addons, Gearbox or that this is another DN3D re-release.

Instead of "episode" he should have said "expansion."
I know, semantics, but when I see the word 'episode', I think "a few new levels with no new content"; while if i see the word 'expansion' I think "hey new additional content added to the base game".

Concerning pre-orders, Megaton came out just recently. I don't think many would be excited, yet again, for yet another Duke Nukem 3d release. I hope Gearbox at least puts original version on GOG. I don't think they would need to pay anyone royalties for that one.

Battleborn, disregarding what people think about it now, was a major title though. You can't say "even Battleborn". I'll buy WT the moment it is released, but I can see no reason at all to preorder this. Also, the Steam forum consists of mostly the same four or so people posting the same thing over and over again - its hardly a fair representation of anything.

I think you might be right about this.

I think they kinda messed up with the PR regarding this. If they meant it as Randy said on Twitter - a new episode with everything else (the base game) being an extra - they should have said so clearly. Now it just made them look greedy.

New screenshots and infos about the new maps. You can see the new alien and the new boss (I think).

Does that mean they expanded the build limits even higher than eduke32 currently does?

Also, recolored Cycloid.... eh.
#1094 Posted 21 September 2016 - 01:21 PM
Also, mini-Overlords and mini-Cycloids seem to be confirmed. Flamethrower sprites and everything associated to it still sucks.
#1096 Posted 21 September 2016 - 02:02 PM
Also, another 'How Duke Can Be Saved' article, this time from VICE.

Christ, from an audio standpoint this fails on pretty much every level.
Not only are the sounds still muffled, now the music is too. How the fuck? And of course the higher quality sounds still clash horribly with the older ones.
Also, the Incinerator still uses the same sound as the Freezethrower -- is there anything about this weapon that isn't half-assed? And the Firefly also uses liztrooper sounds...

Oh my god, the Duke Nukem mythos is expanding! Mini-Overlords in DN64 now confirmed canon!
But was the Overlord the overlord of the Mini-Overlords? Do the Mini-Overlords mini-overlord Mini-Mini-Overlords?

Judging by the lack of K&M used in the previews this re-re-release is bound to suck harder than Monica Lewinsky.

Until this moment I did not want to leave any negative review, but... I just can't. This looks so lazy and unprofessional. The artwork looks strange, I have not seen new textures without this shitty "3d effect", however I dare to say that they are worse than original one because my eye can easily recognise quality difference. I am speechless about new, I mean "new" enemies. They are not new: same sounds, same art. Taking old stuff and using different pals doesn't mean new. Sound is horrible, I have not heard 50% speech of Duke. And now about the old guard. My horrible dreams come true, they(guard) do not save the situation. Leveldesign is just normal? I mean if somebody showed me this level before I would say it is just a usermap. May be my impression is worse because of bad artwork or the grass was greener before. The new music sounds like Stalker with some mix.
My feelings are strange. I feel like somebody wants to fool me. World Tour looks like user mod from 90s. I am sad.

- Replay feature and Developer commentary are toggleable
- Levels stats option is included
- No sight of autoaim toggle - at least it looks like it is disabled for hitscan weapons and Gamesradar article mentions that autoaim was tweaked to feel more "modern"
- Toggle for HUDs - currently displayed is named "minimal", so I suppose there will be at least one another, probably just classic full statusbar. But it does suck, that their modification of minimal HUD still lacks keycard display.

“As the last map in the new Episode, and bringing the game full circle back to where it started in LA, what better place to fight one final boss than at the base of the Hollywood Sign,”
#1109 Posted 21 September 2016 - 08:15 PM
From one perspective: Comparing the new map in the video to user content, it is fairly mediocre, a good mapper could probably make something like that over the weekend and the new textures don't fit at all, they look flat and boring. The music is pretty bland.
From another perspective: The new levels don't feel like original levels either and fail to capture the spirit of the original game as well as they could have done. The textures don't feel right from this stance either. The music does not fit well with the more ambient sound of the original game either, it lacks the atmosphere and instead just relies on being backed by a guitar, something that pretty much never happened before.
I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not real great either. I sure as hell wouldn't pay $20 for it. Perhaps I have been spoiled by all the years of user content that I could get for free, but whatever, I can think of better things to spend the money on.
