Hello, I'd like to offer Member Awards. Members can get awards for their's every map, art, mod, behavior etc.

Posted Image

It will provide the motivation to develop something for Duke, it will also display to other members all the merits of a particular person.

Cups

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Cups can be given for everything: map, mod, art, composition etc. Golden Cups are the rarest and Metal Cups are the most frequent. For example, Gambini and Mikko deservers Golden Cups for Duke Nukem Forever 2013 Mod, Merlijn v. Oostrum deserves one Golden Cup for every map of Red Series. However, map like this deserves only the Metal Cup.

Other awards

Posted Image

Med bottles are given for donation. It can be money, game code etc.

Posted Image

Police badge is given for the "law guys". Actually I don't have strong concept for this award. Maybe it can be given for proof or something like that.

Posted Image

Community Builder is given for members who are very active in the discussions.

Posted Image

Duke Sign is given for members who take part in community mods, maps etc. For example, this sign can be given for everyone who took part in Duke Hard episode.

How it will look

Posted Image

It will be addition block above "My Information". Each award is a link for what it was issued. If you hover your mouse over the award, you will see text for what the award was granted.

It would hurt my feelings and make me feel uncomfortable to see all those icons for others and not for me. Therefore, we cannot have it. ( just kidding )

That's ok. We could have a few badges just for being members. Everyone can be a winner! After all, it would be unfair otherwise, what with all the talented people getting badges over all the untalented people and all.

Suggestion for a member award:
Warning I can't do Pixel art, and this is indeed a poor trace over of the actual logo, along with it not continuing the specific art style

Balls Of Steel:
Awarded to member who says whatever he or she wants to,
despite he or she possibly being a complete idiot.
Or for whatever you define having Balls of Steel for.
only award I'll ever get

Super.
I already have one - it's called still having an account without being banned (yet)

So who's supposed to judge what's the best and deserves a golden cup? That sort of thing is extremely subjective. For example, you suggested the authors of the DNF 2013 mod. While the mod is certainly quality work and a lot of fun, it's arguably not the best mod around. I'm aware you were just giving an example yourself, but I'm just illustrating a point.

If you're also awarding these things retroactively, does that mean you're going to follow up on nearly 20 years worth of Duke maps for every member? That's a massive undertaking.

I'm also not sure if people would care about having them or not. Maps and things take a lot of time, and people will only make them if they enjoy doing so, especially when there's real life and other priorities to consider. I don't think having a few extra pixels are going to tip the balance.

Just being devil's advocate, as every decision should have both sides explored.

Polymer wishlist: Global illumination, SSAO, Bloom, reflective surfaces, adjustable specular (wetness), volumetric lighting.
Mapper of the Month December 2014.

1] We are all going to judge.
a] We need to add some kind of rank system. Just vote 1-5 and at the end we will have average result. 4,5-5 is golden cup, 3,5-4,5 is silver, 2,5-3,5 is bronze and 0-2,5 is metal one.
b] We can give cups for the amount of up votes. For example: 30 < more is golden cup, 20 - 30 is silver, 10 - 20 is bronze and less > 10 is metal one.

2] My experience tells me that people really care about such stuff, if you don't it is pretty ok. By the way, it is not the onliest point to add awards. For example I'd like to play your maps. So I will go to your profile and look at your awards (All awards are signed and all of them are links to your product). If I have free time and wish I will play all your maps or I can play the best ones.

3] As for the last 20 years I really don't know how to implement it. Maybe the onliest way is to spend some time and give all awards. And I don't think that all mappers since 90's are still here.

4] My example about DNF 2013 should be understandable, it's the most popular among all people, not only among our community. AMC and WGR and other mods deserve Golden Cups for sure! However in Russian Community where I am the lead, I think only 5% know about AMC, and 80% know about DNF 13. I've posted all releases, videos, but people hyped DNF more.

5] I'm just a member who offered unfinished award system. I'm going to draw new awards which were mentioned above and remove that cop badge. I need your advises more then critics.

yeah. that's what we need - the steam workshop spam and cry fest. Like somebody - high vote. Don't like somebody - low vote. - Throw tantrums in the forum, and compare penis sizes.

We have almost the same situation with votes right now. One guy on this forum down voted me in other topics, cause he did not like my post. But Duke4's community has a lot of great people, I have seen only a few assholes for these 4 years.

that little reputation meter under your icon doesn't really mean a lot - other than maybe you post things that people agree with or find amusing.
it might irk some people when they get downvoted and then the person doesn't bother to tell you what they disagreed with - but that's about the extent of it.
(other than the people who take it too serious and get in vindictive downvoting wars)

having people "vote" on your work opens the door for them to "vote" on you, not your work. You can have a really nice project, but if you're an asshole the votes are going to reflect that - and somebody "not in the know" is going to assume your work is mediocre or shoddy.

You want a ranking system for project quality - pick a person, or a three person panel, and have them judge.

You should also provide a dirty old dog dish along with your cups. Inevitably we get people on here that spend 15 minutes making a map and think it's the greatest fucking thing in the whole world; then throw enormous fits when people try to give them constructive criticism. They completely disregard anything anyone has to say and a week later they spam another 15 minute project claiming their skills have vastly improved and now this is the greatest thing to ever grace our pathetic existence.

Yep, best is a three person panel, I think. It's more difficult to argue face to face against three. Those three people in turn need to be free of prejudice. Posted Image
Mikko is still reviewing maps, he could be considered a silent third vote? And Forge is reviewing maps as well and is willing to risk the abuse right here on the forums. He should be the lead. The third could be an active good mapper, too many to mention.

I don't review maps anymore - mostly because I was on an island surrounded by sharks and the guy I was depending on to have my back was, inadvertently through his inaction on certain subjects, trying to push me into the water.

We could also think of some form of achievements. For example:

- post 10 messages a day (hot poster)
- post 100 meesages a day (nasty spammer)
- downvote one person 5 times in under 1 minute (angry hater)
- downvote 5 different people 5 times in under 1 minute (dirty son of a bitch)
- post 10 messages in a thread without letting anyone iterupt your string (I'm talking to myself so shut the fuck up)

I hope its mostly "behind the scene" changes. It took me quite a while to get used to what we have now. I wouldn't want to see huge changes.
