r_texcache (enable/disable OpenGL compressed texture cache)
r_memcache (enable/disable texture cache memory cache)
r_texcompr (enable/disable OpenGL texture compression)
r_texturemaxsize (changes the maximum OpenGL texture size limit) maybe I know this one, it allows you to put larger textures dimension in jpg / png / gif etc
r_texfilter (changes the texture filtering settings)
Are mostly 0 by default.
when pressing "`" (key below esc)
you put the thing and add 1 or 2 or so.

Mainly those effect load times when using a lot of custom textures (both pre-level and mid-level)

So it kinda improve stuff and speeds up the loading once it already loaded?
