How do I convert a picture (png for example) to a bitmap file, within the restrictions of Duke's original palette?
Thanks.

^ which image editor do you use?
I used the GIMP, yet the principles are the same.
1. extract one original tile from the .art files, DukeRes still works and so does BastART
http://www.dukertcm....-tools-editart/
2. save its 256 colour palette, from that image, as a new palette file
3. open your png or whatever image and assign the palette to it.
4. now the fun begins; depending on how many colours are in this image you may need to reduce the colour variances before you can assign the palette.
The basic work flow is simple, but making a given image work into the duke color palette is an art by its own right, thus expect hard work ahead.

Might DeBabilizer Pro help? It's super palette facility allows you to tune multiple images to a single palette.
DeBaliizer pro 6.1 is available for free download.
PC Mag review.

I like symbolic imagery and names.

This one is funny on many levels.

I may be doing something wrong, but I'm assigning palettes pretty easily in few steps in PS.
Rarely I have to mess around with the colors.

I started work on a new Build tool that lets you palettize images to a palette using our tilefromtexture algorithm, which produces the best results of any program I've ever used. Ideally I'd like to make Python bindings for it too, which could make life way easier for anyone who wants to experiment with funky blend tables.
