DNF Performance?

I was thinking about buying DNF on Steam soon. But I want to get an idea to how well it runs. Could anyone tell me how well DNF runs on this system? Thanks in advance!

I think you'll be fine. I played through the game on a Pentium 4 with a Radeon HD 4650 (AGP).

Just make sure you get the game on a big sale in case it doesn't live up to your expectations. The steam winter sale should be starting in 2-3 days coincidentally.

Great, thanks!

Though, if I may enquire further, what settings did it run on and how many FPS did you get?

Great timing then. Thanks for that piece of info!

Buy the XBox version and you'll never know that bitter disappointment that the burns within the hearts of the rest of us.

You mean the version with the horrible performance and low quality texture pop-in issues? Or was that actually eventually patched?

I doubt the game is that CPU intensive, it would probably run fine on a P4.

Well to anyone who helped me determine how DNF would run, thanks for the help. I bought the game on sale from GameAgent for $4, which gave me the Steam code. The game runs well with max settings (all effects enabled, details on Ultra, and FSAA on).

Thanks for all the help.

No, it's not terrible. It's just not very Duke-like in tone and not Duke3D-like in approach. It's an ok game on its own. But I enjoy linear HL-like games as much as I enjoy open-ended labyrinth games.

I rate the game 6/10. It was more frustrating than fun.

If you rated it above 5.5 which is a median of 1 and 10, wouldn't it then be more fun than frustrating, if only slightly?

There are more characteristics of the game on which to rate it than just gameplay. My overall enjoyment depends on more than fun alone.

That's a fair assessment. Gameplay is the prime characteristic upon which I assess games. It could literally look like garbage and if it were still fun to play, I'd play it.

I'd give it a 6 - 6.5/10.

DNF was pretty light on performance compared to other games I play.

For me, it's a 5/10 for the main campaign, but it's a 7.5 / 10 for The Doctor Who Cloned me. I genuinely laughed in TDWCM's campaign. The humor was more Duke-like, and it was overall more interesting and fun.

I definitely enjoyed TDWCM more than the original. Not that it's a grand departure or fixes everything DNF did wrong, but it was better.
