I would like to hear your top 3 bosses. Maybe with some reasoning but okay if not please do in order if possible...

Mine are as followed

Turok 1 T-rex: Are you kidding me? A Trex with metal armor and even a laser eye like the Terminator. This one is no simple Trex he actually has character traits from multiple dinosaurs the most noted is probably the stegosaurus tail. He can breathe fire like Godzilla to. Did I mention he is pretty tough to kill if you don't get the weapons needed before paying a visit. Make a wrong move he will eat you alive hehe. The character design is on point to I made him my profile pic for now :) I really like dinosaurs and this guy would kill the JP Trex.

Duke Nukem 3D/64 Battle Lord: RLH bro his guns will quickly tear you a new one. You hear the noise it makes its time to pause and put the lights back on lol (as a kid) He will rip you up with his machine guns or blow you a new one with his ball grenades hehe. Oh yeah when you kill him Duke probably shits down his neck.

Resident Evil Nemesis: Everything about this guy will kick your ass. He will kick your ass while his theme music plays. Nemesis is very iconic simple big zombie nothing over scaled and crazy like the stuff that came later. Nemesis was big but not giant but you already knew you weren't trying to fuck with him lol. Would rather run away. Its cool that they gave him an explanation story and there was some sorrow in there. I hear that

Trex gets the cake for me

feel free to do an honorable mention. Mine goes to The Sorrow from MGS 3 Snake Eater

Quality picks there, for me in Resident Evil 2 Mr. X is really cool, sort of a predecessor to Nemesis.

The Metal Gear Solid series has a lot of my favorite boss fights, and Metal Gear Rex is really cool in general. And MGSV has a taller sort of variation on it, Metal Gear Sahelanthropus

Honorable mention to Bowser, especially the Mario 64 version. The ol wrestling match you have with him a few times is pretty fun, has good atmosphere to it, really well done for the time.

These are my top Three favorite bosses. Probably not the best pick but oh well here they are.

Attached Image: Huge hermit.png
3. Huge Hermit from Metal slug 3
Since I've been getting into metal slug recently, I decided to pick this boss for one reason, HE'S A GIANT CRAB WITH A BIG CANNON FORTRESS ON HIS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! His fireball attack (I think its a fireball at least) is sometimes unpredictable, so it's not easy to dodge. I know there are probably harder bosses in metal slug, but Huge hermit is just my favorite from the series. Plus I've been using the mini hermits in metal slug defense. It may not be as big as the huge hermit, but it's still fun to use.
Attached Image: mini hermit.png

Attached Image: overlord.png
2. Overlord from Duke Nukem 3D
Reason why overlord is on here is because he is underwhelming. The most easiest boss to face in Duke Nukem. Battlelord is the scariest with his chaingun, and Cycloid fires his missles in random directions, making hard to dodge sometimes, but Overlord's missles though, even though it deals alot of damage (Even one hit kill sometimes) but they can easily be dodged, not to mention you just hide in that little hole in the arena and he won't even attack you. That being said he is just underwhelming, and thats why I like him. :)

Attached Image: cyberdemon.png
1. Cyberdemon from Doom
I think that the Cyberdemon is the most scariest enemy in doom period. His rockets is just terrifying. If you get hit by one of them, you are screwed. This is the one boss you do not want to find in the game, but even if you do, you just gotta hope that he doesn't kill you before you kill him. You do not want to mess with him. Easiest way to get rid of him is of course the BFG, but even then you still have to dodge his rockets. Invulnerability can help a lot when facing this beast, providing that you can kill him before it wears out. Seeing how the Cyberdemon is the toughest and scariest enemy in doom easily makes him my most favorite video game boss ever.

I hate this boss from Sonic 3 (and I love that Sonic 3 & Knuckles skips it) but I think Big Arms is a really iconic finish to the end of the game especially with the cutscene afterwards. I really like the Sonic Generations remix of it too:

Posted Image
Again, I hate this boss but at the same time I love how Vespula functions. In between each wave it changes forms to either an offensive or defensive model. You should really check out Assault Android Cactus.

I think the Meowser (yes, it is called that) boss fight at the end of Super 3D Mario World is an interesting boss fight that is quite frantic and hectic at the end especially when he starts multiplying due to Double Cherries and you have to evade lots of attacks.

I'll be honest though, not many boss fights really stick in my mind and I usually only remember them from replaying the games they are from.

Ugh Zan 3 from Serious Sam the First Encounter (HD). I was literally hysterical when that guy appeared and started chasing me towards the pyramid. So damn huge, invulnerable to your weapons, tonnes of other guys charging you to worry about; a super intense fight. The whole level was pretty damn epic.

3.
Vergil Round 2 (Devil May Cry 3)
Posted Image
It has everything, the opponent is awesome, the music is pumping and the challenge is perfect.
I raged at this battle so much when I first played it, but the amount of satisfaction I felt when I finally beat him felt so good.
The reason why I love the 2nd fight out of the 3 times you fight him is because the first time you fight him acts as sort of a training fight and the final battle goes down when you've gone through a whole game's worth of training so you've learned a lot and both of those battles were pretty easy for me, but Round 2 goes down when you've learned a decent amount but not everything and even Vergil himself has leveled up with a new weapon and even his own Devil Trigger, making the fight that much more intense.
Vergil still stands as one of my favorite video game villains ever, except for that wanker in that reboot, he's a joke.

2. Senator Armstrong (Metal Gear Rising)
Posted Image
I LOVE this fight, this fight has to be my most replayed boss battle ever and not just because it took me forever to beat him, I kept returning and replaying this boss battle over and over again long after I beat him on the highest difficulty because I just LOVED it!! It took me so many tries to beat him and I did rage, but not the point of controller breaking because every time I raged, I was still happy because I wanted the boss battle to start over again due to me having so much fun, some times I even restarted the battle when I was just about to beat him just because!!
The fight is exactly how a final boss battle should be, very challenging, multiple stages, amazing music and extremely climactic.
I don't know how Platinum Games would surpass this battle in a sequel but I hope they try.

1.Cycloid Emperor (Duke Nukem 3D)
Posted Image
Yup, this guy kicked my ass back in the day and honestly since I was so young, he used to scare the shit outta me, since Duke 3D took me forever to beat back then, I remember it took me days to beat the Cycloid, I think my dad beat him before I did, but when I finally beat him I was so happy and I got to enjoy that awesome goal kicking cutscene for the first time.
The setting is just too awesome, Duke Nukem vs The Cycloid 1 on 1 in a Stadium once and for all and when JSJ said the line "It's down to you and me, you one eyed freak!!" followed by that awesome soundtrack, it sealed its spot as my favorite boss battle ever.

Honorable Mentions:
Jack Krauser (Resident Evil 4)
Albert Wesker (Resident Evil 5)
The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater)

I'm somewhat of a fan of bosses that are levels:

Such as:
1: Twisted Metal (PS3) Carnival Of Carnage
Posted Image
This is if i remember correctly a 4 stage boss (that's an entire level)
The first part is driving and killing underlings and a small flame throwing clown head to get in there
The second part is playing human pinball with using your car, straddled with insane bomb toting clowns.
third part is an obstacle course.
fourth part is a helicopter boss battle between you and that giant crane toted flame spewing clown head.

2: Strider (2014) Ouroboros MK III
Posted Image
You ride a giant robot dragon and try to kill it,
it tries to kill you by electrifying it's body segments, sending out robotic drones and turrets
and sending ridiculously slow missiles in order to end you.

3:FFV to FFXIV: Tonberry
And this one I like because it doesn't fit the usual boss mold of being a huge daunting figure, he's just Jawas green brother with a fish tale holding a knife and a lantern, who has the possibility to one hit KO you:

I haven't enjoyed any boss fights, except for Mr. Freeze in Arkham City.

Boss fights are usually just quick time events or remember the pattern affairs which become boring the more times you have to play it, or bullet sponges, which are boring from the get go.

I can't pick a top 3, but here are 3 of my favorites right off the top of my head.

Goras (Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars)
Posted Image
One of the more hectic and interesting bosses from SF64. You chase a huge, skeletal monster across a desert in a tank. Said monster also has your teammate's ship in it's clutches, and until you free said teammate you can't see the boss's health meter and have no idea how effective you're being at fighting it.

The Brain (Earth Defense Force 2025)
Posted Image
Everything in the EDF games is big, so of course the final boss would progressively cover the entire sky over the course of the fight, with almost all of it's panels either deploying additional enemies or shooting fuckhuge lasers at you.

Bruno Borgia (Predator: Concrete Jungle)
Posted Image
The hulking head-honcho of the Mafia, who is confronted by the Predator in a museum during his attempt to take over the city. Undaunted, Bruno grabs a motherfucking battle axe and takes on Scarface mono e mono. The music that plays during this fight is also the best in the game.

Interesting choices I like most of them, everybody put at least one boss I was familiar with in there post :) There were a few that I had forgotten about but you guys reminded me of them. Boss fights can be really good, some of them require no routine besides shooting them a hole lot. And there character design is usually epic. But even when the fights are routine based, it can still be fun or a challenge. For example the alien queen in DNF DLC, going inside of her to fight of the octabrains and destroy her insides was actually very interesting.

This has been an experiment I am under no circumstances responsible for side effects :) Joking but I am trying to come up with a boss(or antagonist) in a story I am writing. So I wanted to see opinions from others, these are great all around.

Here are some other interesting bosses to look at

Never really thought about this, should figure out what are my favourites based on the dynamic nature of the boss fights, not just character design.

Blood, 1997:

Even though every time I fight him, I always end up with no ammo left except for TNT, and the pitchfork, that's what I like about it. He's so tough to kill, and it really makes you feel as though Caleb has to go through a true challenge to avenge the death of his lover. It's a shame the other bosses in the game didn't come close to this one. IMO, he was the best BUILD engine game boss battle. The other games also can be seen guilty as having a great first boss, but shitty bosses for the other episodes.

  • Hans Grosse
Wolfenstein 3d, 1992:
Spoiler

He was probably the first boss in any FPS I ever fought, and he was so massive and threatening the first time. He is a perfect challenge when it comes to first bosses, and the level is great too.
  • Sinistar
Sinistar, 1982:

Sinistar was cool because how he would randomly appear and the things he would say. The tactics needed to defeat him were very important, otherwise he'd eat you.

Honorable mentions: Shadow Warrior's Serpent God Boss, Duke Nukem 3d's Battlelord, Spider-Man 64's Mysterio fight.

Shit, I forgot about Sinistar; that is indeed one of the best examples.
