Can Duke Forever be created with Build?

#1

Sure this is a hard question to ask and i bet someone has thought about this or there might be someone on forums who asked this already but here it goes.

As you know i love duke nukem with all my heart as much as you guys do i loved it since i was a kid when i played duke forever it hurt a little but i still loved it for its reason in game history and for duke. But would it be possible to make the whole 2011 game in the build engine sure you would need to make all the art and code a shit ton but would it be possible. Sorry if this question has been answered before don't get mad. :)

I'm afraid I can't answer that, as I'm under an NDA.

Theoretically someone could, but there's a far better version created already by members here

Since we are friends ...
http://www.moddb.com...e-nukem-forever

Gearbox owns the rights to the game Duke Nukem Forever, and I doubt they would be pleased to see, even portions of it, in another game engine.

Not Duke Nukem Forever but I've always wanted to try and recreate the original DN3D maps in Build in this ultra-detailed manner (obviously utilizing the sector/wall/sprite limit fully as well as having TROR) similar to the Doom WAD Knee-Deep in ZDoom.

I would love to see that!

You could make a good approximation of the early builds of DNF in BUILD if you were really dedicated and had lots of patience. You'd have to be carefull about using lights through.

Honestly, I think for it to be more authentic, you'd want to use the Quake/Quake II engines.

I'm sure it could be done. Take the maps from the final and downgrade them to tech from the 90s (which wouldn't take much work because most of the maps are old as hell anyways), then create the graphical assets, and take 14 years to finish it, and right before release you'll receive a C&D letter...

I'd like to see Doom 3 demade into the original Doom as well.

To get the lighting effects of the 2003 build, you'd need polymer. Actually, you could have your cake and eat it with the Dark Places Q1 port.

I'd have to do a forum search to be sure but wasn't it Steevie that did a next gen remake of just a small area of a map for a contest or something like that? I remember how cool that looked. I think it was the peep show area of the book store.

Yeah, he did the peep show in Unreal 3 or 4.

Someone had a similar idea in Unreal 2k4.
https://youtu.be/HDetZPj1g1M They've used a lot of HRP assets as well.

I've always wanted to see Anomalous Materials from Half-Life remade in Doom 3 with demons instead of aliens as if it was part of Doom 3's storyline.

Why did you quote yourself? Lol

I don't know anything about Quake editing, but I think moddb has some tools for the game.

I am sorry to be the arse here again, but the community would be quite happy with playable new maps.

You will not be permitted to remake anything Duke in another engine without the permission from Gearbox.
and even if you do get it, you may end up dead in the water
http://forums.duke4....t-from-gearbox/
to make sense of the thread
https://en.wikipedia...em_3D:_Reloaded

as for Quake I Mapping
http://quakeone.com/
as for Quake II Mapping
http://leray.proboards.com/
and one of the better tools to do it with
http://quark.sourceforge.net/

Duke games on other engines are like Shrodinger's cat. If someone can observe the thing, it dies. Long before Gearbox were assholes with the C&D order, 3DR were doing the same thing. If you do something like that. It has to be a very small team operating in complete stealth mode till the thing's released. If you want to make a Duke mod, you are stuck with EDuke if you want to avoid the banhammer.

I personally would love to see a Duke game, in the spirit of the original DN3D (not a straight remake) made in something that looks like it was created this Century.

Hey, I've got a great idea. Why dosen't someone with blonde hair make a remake of Duke Nukem 3D in the Unreal Engine? You could approach Gearbox for permission and then release it. What a wonderful idea, why hasn't anyone done this before? (ducks from hail of rocks and rotten vegetables).

That mention of the Duke game on Unreal was a bit of humour aimed at the Reloaded team. I wasn't suggesting you make anything.
