Duke Nukem 64 HQ quotes ?

Hey, i don't know if i'm waking up from a decade on this one, but i found something amazing enough to make me wonder if you guys had more infos about this.

So, i downloaded a classic DN3D user map today ( http://dukerepositor...o_The_Ground%29 ), and found three Duke Nukem 64 exclusives quotes in it replacing base .voc files. Nothing incredible from here, but what's new to me is that they sound crystal clear, far from the N64 audio compression. I'm 95% sure these quotes are exclusives to the N64 version, so i'm wondering where these files came from ?

These are not re-recorded and are the original lines, just in high quality with no compression.

I don't know how to upload .voc files on the web, so here's a short .mp3 clip of the three lines located in the map folder if you want the preview.

http://puu.sh/dYq4H/06af7807bd.mp3

Any information on this ? Is there more High Quality quotes from the N64 version or Duke 3D available around ? I already know about the PSX ones, but these are still compressed. The ones found here just sound like they're coming from an actual release.

From the txt file:

Quote

'Puritan', from whom I borrowed some of the new sound clips that come with this map.

I noticed the informations he gave on the .txt / credits, but it still doesn't tell us the origin of these HQ sound clips, Puritan being just another mapper (and no idea if he's still around to help on that)

Doing some research on this, it seems that a handful of Duke 64 quotes were released in their original, uncompressed format with the following file names:

DUKE64-1.WAV 169.7 KB
DUKE64-2.WAV 340.2 KB
DUKE64-3.WAV 208.7 KB
DUKE64-4.WAV 224.3 KB
DUKE64-5.WAV 144.6 KB
DUKE64-6.WAV 317.5 KB
DUKE64-7.WAV 296.7 KB

I did a search on Puritan and found mapper Frode Waksvik, Check any maps of his that include some of these Duke 64 quotes and you'll see he credits someone by the name of Jack Gutzler. Do a search on that name and you'll find he's an old time Duke mapper by the name of Captain Massive who has been active as recently as last month here and even here on Duke4. I did a search on his mapping alias and found he worked on the Starship Troopers TC. I did a search on the AOL email address credited to him in the mod and found this map. Download that map and you'll find the sought after high quality Duke 64 quotes located in the GOODIES/DUKETALK folder.

What exactly is the origin and context of these quotes? I recognize the PSX outtakes, but I've genuinely never heard some of these before, and they even seem to date well back to at least 1998. There's even an uncensored version of Duke's yippee ki-yay quote.

The three you linked in the first post are from Duke Manhattan Project I believe. :)

That all sounds like pretty impressive research, except (minus the stuff regarding the duke quotes themselves) all of that is pretty obvious if you've ever visited Come Get Some forums. Hell Puritan's the guy who runs the site and ran the Duke Repository.

These are definitely not from Manhattan Project. The lines demonstrated above are Duke 64-only quotes, and the exact clips are included in the map I linked to which predates MP by several years.

You're probably right. I don't remember hearing them in DN64, but I haven't had that cartridge out in years, you're sure they aren't from Zero Hour? Still though, the audio is unusually clear in any case.

I think I do remember the "I guess you didn't feel so lucky," line though now I think about it.

These are all from Duke Nukem 64:
"I ain't got time to bleed!"
"Well, I guess you didn't feel so lucky, punk!"
"Huh, I'm gonna get you, suckers!"
"Eww, who's your plastic surgeon?"
"It's time to make tracks!"
"In a perfect world, you'd already be dead!"
"Hey, you're the disease, and I'm the cure!"

Wow, some deep searches around here indeed, hats off about the map you listed. There's indeed many one-liners i didn't recognized either in these sound folders, they're not from Time to Kill nor Land of the Babes, Zero Hour, not so sure but i don't think so.

Some files sounds like recording tests from Jon St. John, we can hear him laughing about some quotes he can't take seriously, maybe some of these (the ones that still sounds compressed) are coming from an old interview or something like that ? Never heard these anyway, i think it's from an old video or a podcast...

About the DN64 uncompressed files, i maybe found the origin of these:

http://uk.ign.com/ar...duke-sounds-off

Turn on your time machine, the article is from 1997, and the preview links are obviously dead, however, all the HQ quotes we heard are listed here, so it's almost certain that IGN had these lines available as a preview for DN64, and that someone managed to download these files back in the day...

Not confirmed, but sounds plausible to me. Or, maybe, there was a promo-CD offered in some mag with quotes listed in, it was something common...

EDIT: There's the "Ahhh, does it hurt ?" quote listed in the IGN article i mentionned, however i didn't found it in the sound files. UGH, UGH, WHERE IS IT ? :)

EDIT 2: Most of the outtakes are from here:
Still no clue about the "good ones" however.
