[Release] Duke64Holiday "something for the holiday Nuclear Winter"
#1 Posted 24 December 2014 - 10:20 PM
This is a smaller project I threw together I know there probably will be things to nitpick and that's fine but just try to enjoy a little holiday spirit okay Megaton has no "user map" section for the expansions so co op is for there and single player is for yours truly Eduke32 hope you can enjoy had alot of inspiration thanks hope the holidays is good for you all.
Story : Duke64 never had his Holiday, there was no expansion pack for it so he is pissed and calls Duke 3D and tells him he is a lucky son of an arghhhhh for having vacations. So Duke 3D say he make sure he is set with his own cabin with babes and weapons included within the secluded snow resort. All Duke 64 want's to do is get a vacation but the bottom feeding scum sucking aliens had the line tapped from somewhere in space.... be prepared to scream arghhhhhhh at Santa it's not nice to shoot him
Download here: Duke64Holiday
Edit: Steam versions available co op and dm Holiday co op steam

Edit: If you want to play the map in Megaton in single player, you'll have to rename it to "E2L1.map" and put it in the "gameroot/addons/nw" folder. That will replace the first map of NW with it. Just keep a backup of the original map you replace to restore it later on. You can put all of the sounds included with the map there, too. If you want the song that's included with the map, rename it to "nw1.ogg" and put it in the "gameroot/music/nwinter/" folder. You'll have to replace the original song with that one, so keep a backup of that, too.

There's a much neater way to install maps, especially when they come with extra files. Simply put all the files in a folder named "Map X" or whatever, then choose that folder in the custom game content directly. When you load that map, it should automatically load everything in the same folder as the map. Just remember when you're selecting the user map in the menu, you'll need to actually navigate to the folder on the left. This way it doesn't clutter up your Duke folder with a million random oggs, maps, and text files (not to mention clashing custom art and cons!).
The only difference here is that you'll also select the nuclear winter GRP in the game box instead of the atomic edition. It should all be there in the box assuming you've got Megaton installed and are using a somewhat recent version of eduke32.

The only nitpicking I could give is about the first crack in the first outdoor area the player has to blow up with the RPG; the hole created by the crack is HUGE yet there is one explosion which looks a bit weird. Also, the "Christmas Commander" protecting that crack was glitched, it seemed to be stuck in the decor and it couldn't be shot at (I wasted quite a lot of ammo on him), even though he could shoot at me. http://i101.photobuc...zps626bdf58.png
Gameplay was solid and quite challenging on CGS which I enjoyed. Just before finding the medipack, I was at 1HP and got frozen by another Christmas Commander; but my ass got saved by the medipack which was perfect timing. I'd say the item placement (everything from weapon to ammo and health) was spot on.
I enjoyed the layout of the map as well; although the "communication" room to call Santa felt a bit out of place.
Nice map I enjoyed it!

These do not constitute an 'update' to the original maps. They can not replace the original versions when using the unmodified Nuclear Winter addon.
