I never played this game before. I'm gonna give it a shot. Is it any good?

I'd try the shareware version to see if I liked it. It's found here http://www.3drealms.com/caves/

It is good. Similar to Secret Agent if you've played it. Also a more evolved form of the older Apogee games like Monuments of Mars, Pharoah's Tomb, and Arctic Adventure in that there is a hub overworld map and you can choose (mostly) which levels you want to play. Sort of like Commander Keen too, actually.

Crystal Caves is crystal.
Also, just in case someone isn't aware of that, Secret Agent has also been available on gog (since March 2013, based on a gog.com news/forum post).

Apparently, there is a port of Crystal Caves:

Disclaimer: It appears to be in Alpha, and no one's worked on it in awhile...

Don't know where to put this, but I was browsing the remakes page from the DIV Games Studio archived website (DIV Games Studio is a Spanish game development suite which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s), and stumbled upon a Crystal Caves remake. The download works. I cannot judge how faithful the game is recreated though.
