don't know how much business you'd get over there unless there's alot of hunting - then you could drum up several customers for aerial recon and scouting

Hunting is very big in New Zealand, but I wasn't aware people used drones for it.

I can remember back in the day my grandparents had an Ariel portrait painting of the family farm. A guy with a plane flew over the neighbourhood taking pictures of every property, then went door to door offering oil paintings, and selling the photos.

There is always something special about seeing your own house from a birds eye view.

What amazed me was in the second video is how he flys it right above the van and the people don't even notice till he gets in close.
I bet they thought it was a UFO because they looked like old people. :P

it's a relatively recent concept for outfitters and guides since the technology is getting to the point where those rc vehicles have a farther control range and can stay in the air for enough time to actually be useful

if you decide to start up a business, you should contact some hunting outfits and see if they'd be interested in subcontracting your services

The vision 2 has a flight time of about 25 mins, even that amazed me seeing that I can get 10mins approx out of the ones I have currently.

Ariel photography can be viable. At one point when I was working at a university AV department, I was asked to research the possibility of taking some B-Roll in a helicopter of the campus for promotional videos. Flyby video of a college campus can add to the appeal in promotional material. Using a drone makes it more affordable since there is not insurance issue (people + expensive camera + helicopter = insurance nightmare)

Guys are always searching for a new and innovative way to propose to their girlfriend. Imagine a small box being delivered by a drone to the couple relaxing in their yard or at a park. She reads the note and opens the box for her ring. And its all recorded for later playback to friends and family.

I think I heard something recently in the news where you can't sell those pics from "drones" for commercial use.

For your sake, I hope I'm wrong :P

All I can say is whatever the biz, start it! It's the only way to financial freedom, and freedom and for having lots of your own time.

Who knows, but it shows a general interest in seeing things from atop.
Never been to New Zealand and have no clue to advice pro/con.
Here is Canada, people, including myself, love to rent a helicopter and snoop around the hood. It's cool fun.:P

no need for that in NZ. it's just a small south pacific island. climb to the tallest mountain and you can see the entire thing.

Can´t you mount a piston to it? It´d be really cool for murder errands!

Way cool. Right before I clicked on your video a neighbor was running down the street and recording with one of those behind his kid who was on a bike. It sounded like a very large hornet buzzing around.

I have noticed that once you get it to around 200 meters high you can no longer hear it. :P

If you get a few drones and mount some guns and rockets on those you could start your own army.
