EXHUMED not Powerslave (noCD patch?)  "a no cd patch or fixed exe needed"

I have been trying everything to patch the EX.EXE with a no cd patch, but its in Russian and I'm not doing it right or something.

If you read Russian can you please try to patch the Exhumed (EX.EXE) file with this program?

Here you'll find a fixed PS.EXE also if interested.

Any help to get the patch program to work or a fixed EX.EXE is appreciated.

The only change between the original PS.EXE and the patched PS.EXE is that at location 0x0002F0C9, 0x75 is changed to 0xEB. If you open pwrslave.cxp in a hex editor, you can see those values at the end of the file. (C9 F0 02 00 75 EB)

Correspondingly, the end of exhumed.cxp is 40 F5 02 00 75 EB, so try changing byte 0x0002F540 from 0x75 to 0xEB.

here's an instruction translation:

In addition noCD helps run the game without the requirement to stick the disc while it is already there in a virtual drive (the game, for some reason, does not see it). I note that after applying noCD game stops and starts the drive demand and music will still be (if the disk, of course)!

After applying noCD not forget to copy from disk to the directory for the game file "BOOK.MOV".

Installation is easy: mount the image of the game, copy everything that is there, but the file "INSTALL.EXE" in any directory (this is for us all must file "INSTALL.EXE" to do, but it is under XP, in any case, for some reason can not properly determine where the hard drives), and then download the file with both versions and, in principle, we need only the file from there "PS.EXE" (the rest - as a makeweight for those interested), who throws in the same directory . Then download the noCD and apply each noCD the appropriate files. Everything. Now if you run "PS.EXE" will play PowerSlave, and if "EX.EXE" - then Exhumed.

i can't check your file to see if it's the same without turning off my anti-virus - it keeps false reporting the cxpatch.zip as a trojan

Thanks for all the help, but unfortunately it didn't work, or I just don't know what I'm doing in a hex editor.

No go. I'm thinking there's more than one location, this byte 0x0002F540 0x75 might be the 2nd location.

In Powerslave it ask for the disk just as your going into the map. Exhumed seems to want it at load up. It keeps saying that a CD-ROM drivers missing.
I tried the /cdoff switch with the patch and that didn't work either. I think the patching info is a bit neglecting, missing something.

Thank You for modifying it, to double check.

Having written manuals for commercial software for a few years, I absolutely detest poor, inaccurate and incomplete instructions. It is like people so often can not imagine any perspective but their own. It seems easy to me for most personality types. The revisions to my early manuals were due to learning of obscure patterns in some people interpretations of lists... had to change around both sentence and paragraph structures like locations of verbs an subjects etc. Is crazy, but still something that can be learned with little effort. <sigh>
I wish I could help but I am still working 7 days a week... only for about 13 more months though. (In theory)

Good luck guys. ^_^

Alright, finally I got it. Exhumed working without a CD / ISO
You just create a batch file like this:

EX.BAT
MOUNT E D:\ -t cdrom
EX

This will load a virtual MSCDEX.EXE from DOSBox EMU and will fool the game in thinking your system has a DOS CD-ROM Drive/Driver.
It will play the BOOK.MOV too if its in your games root folder.
Remember to download the fixed EX.EXE too, it includes a pre-made batch.

Thanks everyone for helping. whew, Now I think we have all the BUILD Games not requireing a CD or image.
