Not out of the question.
Coming soon from Apogee: Shadow Warrior Forever!
At least Apogee is starting (seemingly) with a track record of 1 year turnover for DN:CM.
Too bad 3DR isn't a public company or Apogee could buy all the shares and get all the IP, right?

So not only can George not get a game done, he can't balance his check book?
This sounds like they may have been getting some type of funding and that went out the window. This is just....amazing.

One of the more interesting articles. 3dr wasn't the only gaming company to get hit. But probably the most famous considering DNF and not to mention most of our regular visits to the forums. I wouldn't be surprised if a few more gaming companies get hit in the next few weeks or months.

George, well, pretty much ruined the whole development of DNF. The only thing, I suppose, he was doing most of the time.
Scott talks too much, too ambitiously and too arrogant(in the meaning of self-confident) with little results to prove that. His last two projects were underwhelming at best. Triton just bombed. And Prey, while a very solid game, didn't really awed many. And now it is pretty much forgotten. Prey 2 would need a really good marketing compaign to sell that much.
They really aced Duke Nukem 3d and Max Payne. Wolf3d was mostly id's thing, if I recall correctly. They haven't been able to progress with the industry.

That's because the software industry has always been iterative.
You release a product, you gather the bugs and feature requests, you work on the next specs, you finalize the specs, you code the product , you QA the product, you release the product...
You can't stay alongside the industry while pretending you're "above" the petty concerns of it.

But they were moved in case of a catastrophie. They were prepared, but I think it was more like a series of unfortunate events that 3dr went down. George tweating "cutting is shipping" not out of just boredom. They really was trying to ship. But in the end, they've screwed up.

We all know that Apogee Software was not affected by the situation of 3D Realms so this could pose as interesting. No I am not stating it has anything to do with DNF but because it affects Duke Nukem specifically... you never know what it could be.

#776 Posted 09 May 2009 - 04:40 PM
Or...ARE WE GETTING DNF?

#777 Posted 09 May 2009 - 05:16 PM

We can wait, we have some experience on that department. I wouldn't get hopes up due that Apogee Software announcement. There are so many questions around DNF right now.
#779 Posted 09 May 2009 - 05:40 PM
Though if it was an announcement that they're taking over development of DNF to save on costs.. that would pretty cool too. It's not like they have that long of a way to go with it either. But I honestly doubt they have the funds to do so.

Anyway though, I have a problem with it being a DNF announcement because Apogee has 0 shipped titles and thus like 0 revenue at this point as fas as I know. So they'd be funding DNF on startup money which is a fininte resource which would be dumb. Additionally who's gonna work on it?
I mean if the artists and programmers were let go and started looking for other jobs...I mean...is the game gonna finish itself?
Anyway, I'll still hold out hope. But just trying to look at it from all angles.
Maybe they're going to announce the new DUKE ACTOR! OMG!1!!!11!!
