The Sale & Free Thread  "Post here when there's a sale for games that people here want to b"

Origin is having a big sale. I would recommend picking up Titanfall 2 (only $20 in the U.S.), since it's one of the best shooters ever made.

They said they're giving away 5 millions, so that's when it going to end I guess. People should keep in mind though that Payday 2 is overridden by DLCs and that's the catch of this deal.

The DLC that came out before the free version is also no longer available to buy; if you want them all, you upgrade to the ultimate edition.
They also said all future DLC/updates will be free.
It's no longer a train simulator type situation with DLC

Bombshell is 90% off.

I am curious: Did anyone try the steam controller? And if yes, what was your impression?

Owned it for over a year. It absolutely sucks for the games that require constant use of XABY buttons, like slashers or beat em ups, but much, much better for FPS/TPS where you need precise aim. I can't aim for shit with the classic controllers, but with gyro it just feels natural. Grip buttons are great too, can't believe that no one else is using them for their controllers. Customization is amazing and can help fix many limitations of the classic controllers. But it still won't beat keyboard and mouse in these games. Overall, I'm not even sure where to use it anymore. It will probably be a good choice if you like to play FPS/TPS on a chouch.

True some controllers can be limiting, Xpadder helps with that.

RPS is encouraging people to download free versions of the patched-up NOLF games, since rights issues have prevented the games from being legally re-released. Whether or not NOLF counts as abandonware is debatable, but they're certainly amazing shooters.

Quote

Some anonymous heroes are not only risking the wraths of all involved by distributing both games, for free, but are putting out patched versions that’ll run on your snazzy new PC, even in resolutions like 3440×1440 – I know, cos I just played it like that. And gosh, NOLF2 looks good in HD!

I’ve had a few issues. NOLF is quite crashy when I press Capslock, of all things. With NOLF2 I’ve had trouble with the menus not fitting on the screen at higher resolutions. But I’ve not spent long fiddling to try to fix these issues.

RPS ordinarily doesn’t encourage downloading unofficial versions of games, but at the same time, we’re strong advocates behind the concept of abandonware, where individuals and groups preserve and maintain the availability of games that are no longer available for legitimate purchase. NOLF and its sequel are certainly much younger games than would normally qualify for that, but my goodness, all the potential owners of the game sure have gone out of their way to ensure they can’t profit from it. These games have been available for over a year, and no one’s done anything yet.

I managed to find jewel case releases of both NOLF games in a Value Village once. Nice to have the originals.

Since Homeworld games are on sale, would you guys recommend it? Especially Deserts of Kharak since I'm getting Dune vibe from it and Dune RTS games are my favorite.

If you already have the non-special edition on Steam, the key you get from this will unlock all the extra bonus content.

Just FYI, for Canadians out there, our dollar just went up to $0.80 USD the other day. The Paypal exchange rate is $0.78 which means that it's actually slightly cheaper to buy games on GOG in USD currency instead of CAD currency with their Canadian prices. Anyone planning on buying stuff on GOG should bear that in mind. Steam doesn't offer USD currency options anymore but GOG does.

If anybody needs some Max Payne games, there's a steam sale for Rockstar games, MP1&2 for around 4 bucks total, and Max Payne 3 for 7 bucks. There's a Quakecon id games steam sale, so Doom and Quake games etc are really cheap, most for $1.24 each.
