China is blaming congress for ruining the global economy; calls for a "new world order". Nanci Pelosi or whoever is at fault for America's debt and shutdown needs to be thrown into a Terry Trap and have a date w/ Somemong.

If we are going back to kings, I would like to nominate myself. Feel free to vote for me, but not to vote for anyone else.

So apparently the government shutdown is over now. I didn't even notice a difference this whole time.

I did. A USGS science facility owned by the federal government closed down next to our lab for the entire duration of the shutdown. Several of our visiting faculty had to postpone conferences and symposiums because scientists on federal grants were not allowed to work. Also couldn't get into the numerous national parks in the area. If this had continued into the default, there's no doubt in my mind that all of the grants that our university faculty were getting would have stopped cold too.

The only difference I noticed is that the soldiers posted at the entrance of the Air Force base I deliver to have been much more thorough in checking our ID and badges ever since. They used to just glance at it.

Traffic was almost bearable in DC during the shutdown. I went to catch the bus this morning and the roads were packed.
