Rise Of The Triad (2013)

The Hoth level comes pretty close but that's it.

The original ROTT had quicksaving and you can bet many people then "back in the day" were aware of it and used it, but ROTT was fair enough in most places that you wouldn't have to.

Unlike this new game which is "ludicrously hard" in the wrong ways of being hard. It's like telling people they suck bad at Chrome when it's the game's fault of having bad player physics and instant longrange hitscanning enemies, but at least it had saving and loading. and Duke Nukem.

Also... is this evidence on community astroturfing?

That wasn't actually Hoth, but I know what you're talking about. Even so, it's nothing you couldn't do easily with a bit of effort. Most of the platforming sections in the game at worst made you have to run back and try again and didn't outright kill you.

Oh heh heh, I remember Chrome. Wasn't that game made in Java? All I remember is that John St John voiced the main guy (I think?) and the women vaguely resembled Uma Therman.

ROTT performance tweaks

Hi Jeff, thanks for the post. It's really good and in fact it did help me to gain additional 5fps and eliminated texture streaming (though I didn't have major problems and didn't mind it because it lasted 1-2 secs at start), but with the fix it didn't appear at all.
As far as overall performance... as I said, I gained 5 more fps and it eliminated some of the hiccups (drastic fluctuations) that I experienced during normal walk, but that's it. It still showed lightly and on average 25fps isn't something to write home about.
For future posts, may I recommend that you post your code on www.pastebin.com, you can do it as a guest and just leave the link like: this link describes texture streaming. This would help in avoiding large blocks of text (though again, they are appreciated).

It's up to Interceptor to fix their game and as they promised, a patch addressing these issues should arrive in the coming days.

A random tid-bit. Do you all know what this whole situation reminds me of? Ravaged.
The game was created by a virtual studio using the Unreal Engine and it tanked performance on a number of machines I saw it running. (To be fair, I played it 2 times on 2 free weekends. 1st one was great, no issues what-so-ever and the second time after a few months and I guess updates it was abysmal).

I'll check that out. Thanks.

Finished the game last night, but I might wait until they fix this thing and add manual saves before doing it again.

Ok I'm giving up on this game. It's mildly amusing and definitely unique compared to all the other games coming out these days, but it's simply not good enough to be worth the frustration from poorly designed platforming puzzles which combine instant death with not being clear where to go (e.g jump pads might look like they'll carry you across without any keyboard imput but they just throw you in the lava), and of course FUCKING CHECKPOINTS THAT THROW YOU BACK MORE THAN 5 MINUTES WORTH OF MEDIOCRE GAMEPLAY.

And why haven't they ever tried mixing up the gameplay much? It's always a small constant trickle of enemies. I'll admit I'm playing on easy so it might be different higher up, but when we've got super powerful explosive weapons, it'd be nice to be thrown in a room with 20 or more guys close together and blow them away in two or three shots!

Let me know when manual saves are added.

In the original version of ROTT, did people fall through the pit of fire a lot? Could be this video, or maybe I'm just a bit slow on the controls.

Wow that voice acting... is it just me or does she totally sound like she's having sex when she's jumping across the platforms?

I was playing and didn't get that kind of impression. Those jumps are hard, you know.

I would have liked to watch the recording sessions with the voice actress. Or even better: ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE in the creation of those sounds... xD

Good lord! That's just too much to watch for a Monday morning... xDDDDDD

I think the game shouldn't be called Rise of the *TRIAD*... maybe something else rises rather when listening to those "JUMPING" sounds?

PS: On second thought, I wouldn't last long during those recordings... Especially if the female character is voice-acted by a guy. xD

And this is what I like. Because, all problems aside (still haven't played it, though), I like that there is enough demand for oldschool shooters.

And I hope that this encourages to do more and leanr from their mistakes and release their next product in a better state. :P

They should ditch the metal soundtrack and put in a some cheesy 'wah-wah' guitars and if you didn't have the visuals, you'd think you were listening to something else entirely.

But also this encourages putting out an unfinished product with questionable quality and still getting a profit right away.

Which reminds me, did they release 1.0.2 patch?

They didn't. Apparently "family issues".

If anybody here that read this topic before this game was released, paid money for this game and now regrets doing so, should know that I can't feel sorry for their loss. Quite the contrary really.

On 31 july 2013 I posted this in the other ROTT topic.

Quote

It's not very clear yet but from what I've seen posted on the steam forums and on other forums, this game is said to be filled with bugs.
I didn't bother to grab it yet but I will report on it's status after I grab it.
If the game is actually good, I might even decide to stop calling Fresch a useless hipster.
Last year I predicted in this topic that it will be shit and barely achieve a 6 on metacritic.
If by next month, this game scores more than 6 on metacritic I will give these mother fuckers less shit if and when they decide to make their next game.

When I wrote that post, they had almost 8 on metacritic but as it can be seen, it hasn't even been a month since I posted that, and they are already at 6.7 on metacritic.
It's amazing how fast their grade is dropping down to the level that I predicted.
If this trend keeps going like this, their grade might drop to to 5 in 2 or 3 months or even lower.
I hate it when I am right in my predictions about fuckups like this...

Later edit: No matter how many - points you fags give this post, the sad truth is that your game is shit and it WILL drop to 6 on metacritic.
Giving this post negative points won't save you from failure on metacritic and it won't hide it from public view like it happens on youtube.
So keep on rating this post down because it only shows how frustrated you fanboys are when you are confronted with the brutal truth :P

It's pretty hard to regret getting this game, considering the price (I paid about $12). If the bugs were fixed and manual saving added I'd give it a solid 7, possibly 7.5.
And it would also help them to fix the accelerated air control.

Pretty much this for me. If the patch is released soon then opinions will improve; there are those who dislike the game as a whole beyond the issues as some people will, but the game can win more people over if Interceptor can address and fix the current issues soon enough. Also, if they can at the very least improve the current save system by adding more checkpoints in each level then it'll be an even bigger step forward. If manual saves can't be introduced for financial reasons or otherwise then more frequent checkpoints in the levels would certainly lessen the aggrivation of players dying and going back further than necessary.

I bought it for Blake Stone Planet Strike, i only played Aliens of Gold before. Also it was dirt cheap... so not really a loss.

And, Mr.Deviance... must you be a negative nancy. :P

"Created at Apogee Software by a group of former 3D Realms staffers, it’s considered a poster boy for 1990′s shooters."

Oh god that's so painful to read.

How would you describe ROTT? I never played it, there was a little bit on my Duke CD, and did not catch my interest
