[Update: hoax] Half Life 3 on steam?
#1 Posted 21 June 2013 - 07:20 PM
As seen in the link, apparently Half Life 3 has appeared on steam, with a release date of fall 2013....
Is this real? And if so, discuss! I wonder if this will end up revolutionizing PC gaming in any way.

Guess a lot of other people didn't notice this either and must of thought it was real.

I wonder what happens when you try to log into your steam account on that page, i.e if they steal your username and password (yes I know you need more than that these days to log onto steam on a new computer).

Yes, that. And I´m confident they´re going to make a new logo for HL3, and not just change the 2 by a 3. It´s obviously a hoax for noobs

They are, the Half-Life franchise is now a casualty of the "we are going to release our flagship product on our new engine, because if the game sucks, at least the engine will make it interesting" thing that's been going on for a while.

I don't know why people hype it up that much, it's just a game (yes, HL is my fav. game of all time) but HL2 sucked for me, so I'm more excited for Black Mesa to be finished, than HL3.
It's just people on the hype train that are causing this, they've probably never even heard of Half-Life.
They'e just moved on from the episodic gameplay things:

HL3 will be on Source 2 and that'll be it.

Also, maybe I needed buy a new computer......my current one even cannot handle HL2:EP2 so well...

Do you really believe that there still will be a third HL2 episode and they haven't already thrown episodic content out of the window?
Look, Santa is not real and the Easter Bunny neither.

And what's wrong with that? The Source engine is starting to look pretty dated.
#29 Posted 30 June 2013 - 10:22 AM
Source has had updates in 2006, 2007 and very recently in 2013. Respawn studio are building their next game on Source, so it's pretty viable. Assets though, do look dated.
What's wrong with games being used as tech demos? Well, it's in the question, really.
There's nothing wrong in showing off new tech, but using franchises people care about as guinea pigs might upset people.
Moreover, an over reliance is placed on the new tech to carry the game. This includes gameplay mechanics specifically designed to include these features.
Some of Half Life 2's physics puzzles were a little overbearing, the friendly AI system was great back then and is passable today, but I didn't feel it was necessary at all.
It's a problem how they balance these things out. For example, all Crysis games to me are tech demos and nothing else. I've tried getting into them, but the story is bland, gameplay is standard, but the tech is all over the news.
