What are the best TCs to get?

#1

Hello everyone, hopefully I have this in the right place. But so far I've got the new AMC TC, WGRealms 2 Siege breaker, and the Duke Nukem Forever episode. I haven't tried the AMC TC yet but I'm in love with the WGRealms TC. So I was wondering is there anymore good/great/awesome/amazing TCs that I should look into? As long as they are top quality I don't mind if they remain primarily Duke centric. But in all honesty I would prefer ones similar to WGRealms, etc. Complete Total conversions that are either partially complete, complete, or a really nice WIP.

EDIT: Like I said I'm looking for complete TCs or at the very least episode/map packs with new enemies, altered/new weapons, etc.

The Imperium, Blood TC, Starship Troopers TC, Nuclear Showdown, Metropolitan Mayhem.

Then not exactly TCs but may also want to take a look to Attrition and Dukeplus. They offer alternative methods of playing regular maps of even the regular episodes.

But I would have preferred one sticked topic with an updated first post with all the mods worth attention for a first timer.

Cheers everyone! I'm getting addicted to Duke all over again because of these TC's and mods. :). I still love the old duke but these TCs over so much more variety over playing the same old game over and over again. (not that is' entirely a bad thing but variety is the spice of life!)

Don't forget to check out user maps as well, some of them are very high quality and have new gameplay ideas despite being restricted to the original game.

This page has a large collection of user maps, and unlike MSDN, it also lists them in order of highest rating to lowest, and you can search for things like specific authors. Everything rated 85 (especially 90) or above is definitely worth your time.
http://www.scent-88....maplistings.php

MSDN is also good, but lists them in reverse chronological order. So just scroll to the bottom, because 99% of user maps created these days are top quality anyway.

Here I have made a small, easy-to-use compilation for EDuke32. It is nowhere near complete (I am working on a bigger pack which includes some additional mods, also the recent "DNF 2013", plus a proper readme for future custom additions and ofc for giving proper credit to the mod creators), but it should get you started with some quite good stuff. I could also put it onto the HRP site at some point in case there is common demand (and no objections).

If you like it or not is a matter of personal taste in the end anyway, so you gotta play it and see for yourself. For example, level design of some mods (such as "Alien Invasion") can be very simple with very little details, but the maps might still be fun to play. In general, if many people say it's nice, you should give it a try. ^^

Honestly, he definitely named the best 3 mods in his first post. I hope that doesn't spoil him for other mods.

They're good, of course, but come on. Duke Trek, Fusion, Starship Troopers, Platoon... All classics.

I also suggest Imagination World, the latest version (not sure if it's 2.0 or 2.1). Really awesome mod with cool level design, new weapons, enemies etc.
You can also try Duke Nukem Eternity. Cool cutscenes, spectacular graphics and gameplay, also inspired by DNF.

I'd really love something like that. An ultimate mod pack would definitely be something I download.

Dude, you can sort the Hot Map list according to any variable.

Not really a released mod, but I think this would be a great map compilation, dubbed the "Oostrum Episode":

Marteen Desert
Toxicity
Planet X-64
Another Big Base Attacked
Clear the Coast
Red 2
Red 3
Red 4
Red 5
Hell Awaits (Modified with a boss)

Basically every standalone user map the Oostrum bros ever made, minus their first maps since they don't hold up to their later work. The story line would be: "Duke has been deployed in a small cave in a desert (beginning of Marteen Dessert). His job is to destroy all alien scum in his path" and everything would progress in itself. A proper transition between Clear the Coast and Red 2 could be made, where the elevator at the bottom of the sea would lift up into the beginning of Red 2. A helicopter could be made outside of Hell Awaits to give the impression that Duke rode the helicopter from Red 5 to the boss. Coincidentally, the helicopter at the end of Abba and the begginning of Clear the Coast tie in perfectly.

I think I've given myself something to work on for my own personal enjoyment...

About Total conversions, just happened, I'm trying to do (and there are partially successful) a little project with my hands, but it is not something that concerns about the TC in the strict sense, these are only about the maps.
Basically consists in making a mega .GRP which includes all the levels from four TC that have really beautiful structures: "DUKE IN LOS ANGELES", "DUKE IN 25TH CENTURY", "CHIMERA" and "BURNT" each one as selectable episodes, logically reconverted in vanilla weapons/gameplay mechanics so that you can run under the the most recent and advanced mods ("random" examples, Dukeplus and Attrition :) ).
Unfortunately, though being able to create an vanilla like USER.CON and repack a .GRP with these maps, are however blocked by the hurdle of the .ART files and their association in the levels. Which to be honest i was expecting to happen but this problem will not let me play any episode, and even if i can load a map singly, is practically unplayable due the glitchy white weirdo psychedelia effect.
I need someone competent regarding sprites (perhaps require handling with mapsters32) to take care of this flaw, i can also give you what i managed to do so far. So, someone wants give?
Ah, since the topic talks about reporting TC, it's proper put links:

They are brothers, but that does not mean they're the same people. As far as I know they mostly worked on their respective maps by themselves (though I'm sure some mutual beta testing occurred)...

They still seemed to have a similar style. And I believe only Clear the Coast was made by both of them.

Their early stuff is still great. Red is worth playing definitely.

I'm glad people enjoy our levels, that episode looks like it could flow pretty well (although Clear the coast originally was meant to be an unofficial sequel to red5).

Also, red1 is pretty sub par compared to the rest (I really don't like that level anymore), but it might be replaced soon-ish with a better version. :)

Thought you guys had moved on from Duke as you seem to be rather busy with your music and all.
