But when those projectiles' art is replaced with plasma projectiles, it suddenly makes them unique?
Fox, on 09 June 2013 - 12:20 AM, said:
Hah hah, AK47 & M4 are different to a degree that many pick their teams based on them. You have no idea what you're talking about.

No. But, for example, a Gravity Gun is unique.

Counter-strike won't change the meaning of the word "unique".

haha, ok this is funny now. We have somebody trying to tell us all the guns in CS act like each other. Saying that about CoD or BF is one thing, but Counter-strike? Next you're gonna be claiming that CS wasn't incredibly important to the FPS scene.

They all shoot bullets, yes. They don't perform like each other, but judging by what you said earlier you've never played it (or if you did, not very much since anybody who has played CS can tell you the M4A1 and AK-47 handle very differently) so you've got no ability to judge on how similar they are until you've played it properly.

So why did you say this?

You'd know the answer to this question, surely? (Which is no, they don't function the same way)

Not in the grand scheme of things no but in the context of the game, when you're playing against highly skilled opponents, the recoil and RPM make a huge difference. I don't know how you can say you played the game alot and act like those things don't make each gun different.

If you think none of those things matter wherether a gun is unique or not, than stay out of the argument because you're talking about things you have no real concept or understanding of.

CoD has small diferences between weapons. And you are right. Night is a day, only with a black sky. Tomorrow is today, only tomorrow. And so on

I checked the dictionary, uniqueness means "one of a kind". It says nothing about CS skillz.

Besides we are talking about CS weapons that are the "equivalent" for the teams, they are meant to be similar. But compared to modern games CS is not very repetitive with weapons since it doesn't have that many to begin with. But it gets ridiculous with these games that have 30 pistols to be unlocked.

i could tell you the differences between the M4 & AK
standard magazine capacity are the same - 30 rounds
reload time is the same
AK kicks a little harder (it fires a 7.62 compared to the 5.56 of the M4)
AK rate of fire is higher because it's full auto where the M4-M16A2 has either semi or three round burst (the M16-M16A1 is semi & fully auto and has a higher rate of fire than the AK)
M4 is more accurate past 100 yards. man sized targets at 300m/vehicle sized targets at 800m are easily within the capacity of the M4, whereas an AK is about half those
within 150m the AK does way more damage due to flat bullet trajectories. after that (200+m) the damage is about the same - the AK round starts losing alot of its velocity whereas the M4 round loses less velocity and the bullet starts to "tumble" so when it hits it makes a nastier hole as it passes through soft tissue & bone.
bottom line - other than the Ak being louder, having a little more kick, and firing at a higher rate - there's really not a huge difference when firing them

I'm not saying it is an entirely different kind of gun, am I? I didn't say 100% unique and completely original but Fox made it sound like they're all exactly alike, which they're not.

I understand perfectly fine, you were just being asinine. If your entire point was 'They are guns that shoot bullet so they are the same' than you should of said that much earlier instead of wasting my time making me believe you thought they all handled the same.

but if the point is the weapons in the game handle very similar with only minor differences, then it's not too far off from reality

then don't complain about mechanics based on reality if those are the types of games you choose to play
play something with a more varied arsenal

Every retard without skill, good reactions or decent understanding of tactics can be succesful at it. Simple as that. Success.
EDIT:
Oh, and of course perks and other unlockable stuff and levelling up that give the unskilled the illusion of having achieved something. Result: Success.
It is like with music for example. Listen to songs fro children. Children love them. But later they become boring to the more mature people because the brain evolves and isn't satisfied with the simplistic structure and harmonies of songs for children.
Now take a gamer who has played since 1978 and went from Pong to Quake,UT, various Tactical SHooters, etc.
CoD might remind him of the simple songs for children. Oh, yes, there is all that fancy stuff around it. But the gameplay itself is as if you are in Kindergarten and an adult takes you by the hand to cross the street (single player) or playing in a sandbox with other kids and a killstreak is when that other kid hits you on the head with his shovel 3 times (multiplayer).
EDIT 2:
And as if people want to prove me right some dude on Kotaku just wanted the multiplayer of the next COD to be more cinematic and not so much of a "shootfest". See, that's what people want. Less game, simplify it and make some awesome cinematics instead.
