like in the original game, instead of the images.

I dont think you can.
You'll have to ask one of the Dev's (Parkar or someone)

I am not sure. . .I haven't paid enough attention to see if the demo's play in the background.
Do you have the latest EDuke32 snapshot? I assume if anything works, that would.
