Why Were You Banned From The 3dr Forums?  "Curious about the "blank line under name" club..."

#1

In the last few weeks, I've been looking back at some of the threads on the 3DR Forums from the last year or so, and have noticed an appallingly large number of users with the telltale blank line under their usernames, indicating that they have been banned.

I now see several of those users here. :)

Feel free to tell your stories (or to tell me to go [screw] myself ;) )

-Scotty

...in searching around these forums, I found the story of one user that got banned from 3DR for asking how to un-RAR a torrented file, or some-such... ;)

Just saying, to those people here who are banned from 3DR, please don't rant or let of steam or something, i think this is merely for explaining yourselves to anyone, not to make up excuse, or to rant further why 'it was unfair'... If any such happens i'll be forced to Lock/delete this thread, Especially since Joe from time to another makes a visit here, and i don't want this to be a IMHOSTFU-like place...

Ok then, carry on, and just announce yourselves and make up a reason if you feel like it...

I agree with Micki! Ranting and all shit is to be kept private or he gets medieval on your ass.

Joe actually visits this forum? Ha. Maybe when pigs fly.

I used to post there too. It's years ago though. I got banned because I was so angry they announced online authentication for Prey after all their anti online activation rants I said I'd just borrow it from a friend instead.

Don't worry about me letting off steam, or ranting why it's unfair, because I don't care at all actually. I posted a lot but it never was my life or so. The only thing I'm missing (aside from some people that were there but don't post here) is up to date news about upcoming games, and being able to discuss it (because that doesn't really happen on this forum). But I don't mind much actually, I play a lot less games as I used to anyway. It's probably also the reason you only occasionally see me on this place as well.

Given your anti-DRM posts, I suspected that might be the reason. :)

I was banned in 2002, once for spamming "Roxorz my boxorz" five posts in a row in the Post Thread, then banned again another time for having a second username (supertrooper). :)

Oh and I almost got banned a third time in 2003 when I snuck back in to regain my credibility. Basically, I was on thin ice, broke and fell through, then fell deeper, and somehow I was ricocheted to the surface where the ice caps reformed and had sex with Scotty's anal cavity.

Didn't you post that more like 20 times in a row (as Xecutioner?) ? :)

Ppl were starting to flame the crap out of you over that, so I reported the thread. I wasn't trying to get you banned, I was trying to get the shit off the board before it got bad enough for Joe to do something drastic. ;)

As time later demonstrated, General Messages got wiped a few times, then was shut entirely, and has since come back as a moderated forum. I was surprised that sort of thing hadn't happened years earlier to General Messages (and the DNF Forum, for that matter)

I had originally thought that Supertrooper was Cyborg's sockpuppet, as Cyborg and Supertrooper you kept replying to each other. ;)

I don't remember the exact number, but I think it was closer to 5 times. ;)

How did you get unbanned then? What could you have said to Joe to make all things right?

Well I was banned for asking a Battle.net working cdkey for Starcraft - not allowed to do so. Not a big deal, Joe saw that as a "warez" type of thing, which it was not.

Banned (for a week) for posting 'pornographic' images.
Don't know anything about that though, since it wasn't me posting it, don't know if it was someone that walked past my PC, when I wasn't there or if my account got hacked.

I think I remember you getting banned for a while.

A lot of people get temp bans, a week or so, sometimes more. There have been a few times over the years when it seems people get banned constantly.

Banned for trying to edit my profile and/or post messages while waiting for confirmation from the administrator(s). Now I made a new account, but the forums go so fast that I barely visit. This place is my alternative.

Haha legal action for e-mails :) Can't he block your e-mail address?
Then again, in America anything is possible I guess ;)

Well a few e-mails about it is fine. But if he was constantly emailing him about it, it falls under harassment and yes, legal action is possible.

A single (or a few in reply) email sent to a person of particularly sensitive nature can result in accusations of harassment even if you are simply asking to meet with them to discuss something academic. . . .

Just so you know:
When someone threatens legal action against you, it usually means they want you to back off. If you don't and keep harassing them for no reason, they'll consider pursuing the matter. It varies on how they go about it.
Try explaining that to your parents or anyone else that some big company (who they never heard of) or someone is suing you for harassment.

Joe has asked you to stop repeatedly. Did you?

I think I was just warned about posting a rickroll trap in the Post Thread. . .
I said it was a trap. I even warned everyone that it was a troll move. I put it in spoiler. . . but at least I wasn't banned out right.

I never noticed that those Rickroll trap videos were such a serious deal there...

I think it was because it was a javascript ridden page that bounced around and then had pop ups when you tried to close (with the lyrics).

I removed the hyperlink before posting (leaving just the url itself for "at your own risk").

Well, "smouch-dot-net-slash-lol" isn't in the ban filter over there, so it's possible someone else may post it in the future.

I certainly hope no one does. Or at least when they post it they are as courteous as I was. :)

Also, for their benefit. . .I was told to never do that again.
