I actually did, and that was a nice way of saying that they are of a deplorable quality. Not worth anything other than being deleted.

First two maps are actually are modified by me but not made by me. If you really want to know. First map is CIGAM.MAP which is made by Levelord, an of 3D Realms developers. Second is picked from an random guy. Maps E2M3-E2M5 are made by me. First beat the episode then comment.!

The funny part is that 3-5 are the worst maps of the bunch. Cheers for pulling a Sanek and plagiarizing people's maps and pawning them off as your own.

Why E2M3??? It's cool moon walking and killing aliens! How can that be a shit? And also E2M4 reminds me a Space Stations from original Lunar Apocalypse in shareware How to Order pages. Wow! You really don't know what is true map. You guys just want details, details and goddamn details! But don't want that! I want maps fun to play with kick ass atmosphere. That i want. No shitty details. The game's name it's Duke Nukem 3D not DetailMan Nukem 3D!

Your maps aren't even fun, or atmospheric to boot. It's just a bunch of randomly shaped rooms with bad texturing and random sprites. Stop deluding yourself. Your argument would only be valid if you have a classic 3DR building style, which no one would criticize you for. You just have typical noob building style, which is absolutely fine. Every mapper ever started out this way. Guys like Maarten Pinxten and Alejandro Glavic were willing to improve and didn't act like they made the greatest shit ever made. One of my favorite maps of all time is TimeCop by Philip, which is hardly "HUR DUR DETAILS." It was released in 1997 and is better than all of your maps combined.

*Insert a Sanek joke here*

I looked up the maps in the editor, and they weren't looking horrible. They weren't good either. Just standard first maps, nothing special. The idea of using old Space Suit is nice, though.
I guess there's nothing bad about showing your early work on the forums, to get some criticism, but the problem is that you're acting weird. L.A. Metldown Episode remake? Group project? What the hell are you talking about in the first post? That's just ridiculous.

Also, take a good look that you're sayin':

Telling people that your maps are "cool" is an asshole way. Take the criticism and be modest. Don't forget to thank all who spends their time on critisizing your work. If you wanna play maps with "kick ass atmosphere", do it then. Somewhere else, outside the forums.

Your friends are very polite or never downloaded a user map from MSDN or DNR. Maybe ask your 'friends' for a copy of your 'good' maps which you claim to have lost...

Now i can make more kick-ass maps if i want.
No, you can not. Because

This is the perfect reason for anyone to keep away from your 'projects'.

All your maps in both downloads are "Not worth anything other than being deleted" indeed.

For project i just wanted to you people help me to make a episode from scratch that will be based on style of Duke3D's episode 1. But i see you people you don't like that. Please someone tell what i should do to be better mapper! Please! ;)

Practice, practice, practice.

And if you have a hard time seeing if the mood, detail and also the gameplay in your maps is good, then ask for criticism.

If you say that you want to become a good mapper and release some maps and asking what people think and what needs to be improved, they will be more than helpful.

Then, before starting a map, I would suggest you write down a concept and a layout so that you don't run out of ideas. A map is usually seen as a whole, not a chain of random ideas. It needs to have an overall idea. Take a location you think will fit Duke and that you like. Then think about the features in it and what gameplay elements fit. (Example: Cinema -> Streets, Box Office, Lobby, Silver Screen ... you get what I mean)

And if you have made a few good maps you can start to line out a full episode with a full story arc and all that.

EDIT:
Oh, and nobody is stopping you from having five or six ideas from maps that you release one by one after each other that might already have an overall story arc and later might be put together to become a full episode (perhaps with improved versions of your single maps).

BUT: You need to have the ideas for your mapsyourself. Making a map is not like being in the industry where the project lead has the idea and the level designer just executes it.

If you look at any recent Duke mod, anywhere from 60-90% of the bulk work is done by the project 'leader'. He's not just sitting on his ass making up ideas and giving orders, he's the project leader because he's putting in the effort.

Oh, I wasn't clear. I was referring to single maps where you usually have to have the ideas yourself. Edited my last post.

I know, but this guy is dead set on making a mod, and I just quoted you for context of where I was coming from.

I am totally with you. And I doubt he is the right to be a project leader (yet). But that's just me.

I have already asked for thread locking and you added me a negative vote.

In this particular case thread lock is equal to "stop feedin".

You guys must be really proud of yourselves, a bunch of 20-or-whatever year olds being assholes to a kid. Over maps he made when he was fucking 9 years old. It's really quite pathetic.

As for the maps, I've played much much worse. But you really could use a bit more shading, there's a basic shading guide over at the eduke32 wiki I think. It really does a lot to improve the look/feel of the map. And you should probably choose one project and stick to it, especially if you want to be taken seriously.

I did not, even though your post had some net-coppish attitude to me.

Nope, it was mostly a hint to fuegerstef not to put effort in proposals which won't be followed anyway. Parts of this thread are, while futile, quite entertaining.

Necro. The problem with what you're saying is this isn't a 9 year old we're dealing with now. He's acting like his maps are high quality gold when they simply are not. They are the same quality of any first timer. The same quality.

People have been giving him advice throughout this thread.

Laki, here is what you need to do.

1. Pick ONE project.

2. Get down on paper, or in a text file, your objectives for said project.

3. Work on it.
A. Read tutorials here, here, and here.
B. Put what you learn into practice, with relation to what you want to achieve.
C. Get it looking as good as you can and playing as good as you can.

4. Come back here with something to show.

This is when people will become interested in working with you, and believe me, many of the people around here are very helpful.

I hope you don't mind but I messed around a little bit with your map L5. I did not change much. I just added a desk with some chairs and a few things on the desk. And added some glass and stairs around the transporter pad. Added some ceiling lights and a few Polymer lights. I just wanted to show that it doesn't always have to be a lot of details. Just something here and there to fill an empty space. I only changed the first room, nothing else. I accidently messed up the alignment of the wall before the explosion.OOPS.

That floor texture really looks out of place to me and seems more suited to a roof texture, but then that is me.

It could have some potential if you did what other say, especially what Commando did:

Quote

1. Pick ONE project.

Just work with the one project intensivly.
