Interceptor Entertainment is doing a Rise Of The Triad remake.

I started playing the original ROTT yesterday for the first time, and the game has some pretty cool ideas, like crazy weapons, traps and power ups, but the level aesthetics are usually terrible.
Looking again at the new ROTT footage I'm glad Interceptor is merging these ideas with better map aesthetics. Looks like it'll be fun.

They were more mazes than great level design. Doom did a spectacular job for Level design and Duke was just amazing. I think the issue lied on the oversimplification of the level editor.

I guess it's rather the limitations of the Wolfenstein 3-D engine, even with all the upgrades. ROTT levels are still fun, even if they don't look too realistic.

We have SO MUCH stuff to share with you today that we MAY have to spread it out over the weekend. First off, here's the extended cut of our second production diary! (it's totally extended, stop counting the seconds)

We said we had a lot to share today and we weren't lying! Up next is our second podcast - served up in both .mp3 and YouTube format!

https://dl.dropbox.c...7/Rottcast2.mp3

Listen in as the guys discuss "Rebooting a Classic", talk about how hectic QuakeCon was and even what other reboots they're looking forward to or have enjoyed the most. It's all here on the ROTTcast!

And yes, we're aware that picture of Nick IS the best YouTube thumbnail ever.

I actually liked the atmosphere that was provided by the level design due to the modified Wolf3D engine in the original ROTT. I never saw the limitations of the engine as a negative... it made the game unique compared to other games of the time.

Same here, ROTT has a unique feel because of how the levels look. And the whole GAD thing - where are the chances someone would come up with that if there was no other way to create elevation differences?

Do we need to start up a "We Want ROTT Demo Now" thread for old time sake? Complete with hilarious captioned imagery?

God-damn I miss those days.

At the very least we should change the name of this thread to something like "Rise of the Triad 2013". It's almost as bad as the "Black Mesa 2012 Media Campaign" thread.

Still, since I joined the community fairly late, I personally missed out on a lot of the Big Wait so if such a thread is made, I'd be living the glory for the first time Posted Image

I had to go to bed after they started doing Unreal. How far did they go?

Rofl, I remember that. I made a picture for that thread over at 3DR but I can't find the bloody thing anymore.

I was at 3dr forums at that time, but didn't follow Prey that much to check out the thread.

I went through 25 levels in Unreal out of 38 before I collapsed :)
But it was a fun Ride!

Shadow warror took exactly 5 hours and 54 minutes to finish.
And it took almost 10 hours to finish the first 25 levels of Unreal.

Thanks to all of you who joined us and donated!
We collected almost $500 to Childs Play Charity.
You have made life a bit more enjoyable for kids in Hospitals around the world :)

Hah, I expected that! Unreal is ridiculously monstrous and lengthy so no surprise there. :)

Was fun to watch though, hope you guys do some in the future.

So apparently the new Apogee didn't license the ROTT IP from 3DR, they bought it.

I have no idea, just as I have no idea where they got the money to stay afloat the past 5 years but I doubt the ROTT IP was expensive.

Oh sorry I was confused for a second, I read it to mean "interceptor bought the ROTT IP", doh!

Why did they have to do that though? I thought Apogee and 3DR were essentially the same company, or at least closely linked at any rate.

#371

Nobody said they HAD to, but for some reason they wanted to buy it and 3DR wanted to sell it.

At Interceptor Entertainment sometimes the gang has to use unusual means to get the job done on Rise of the Triad. Here's our animator Daniil working on Frederik's computer in Denmark, all the way from his PC in Russia!

This might look like Rise of the Triad 1995. But it's actually Unreal Engine 3. What sorcery is this that we're putting into ROTT 2013?! Stay tuned...

Damn I'm excited for this! I can't wait for a release date! That flashback level is very intriguing... just an Easter egg or something more? This should be something special.
