How do I put user maps and total conversions on Duke Nukem 3D Atomic?

To run a total conversion, it really depends on the project itself, how it is packaged and whether or not it has been updated to be easier to start with EDuke32. What TC were you trying to play?

I downloaded the Shinning 2 Redrum map and all it gave me a .bat, .grp, and a .pcsx file what do I do with those?

delete the pcsx file, it's not important
put the bat and grp file in your duke directory
edit the bat and change instances of duke3d to eduke32
save changes
run the bat
edit: then thank Tx for making eduke so the game can run on modern computers (he accepts sexual favors)

What is the Duke Directory?

for example: C:\Duke3D

Whenever I try to open the .bat file it closes instantly. What do I do?
#8 Posted 06 May 2012 - 06:53 PM
to edit open the notepad program and use its file open feature to select the bat, or right click on the bat file and chose "edit"
if you do the suggested editing to the bat and it still does not work, you may have to copy all the text from the bat and post it here so we can take a look at what's causing the problem

Do you actually have eduke32 installed?

#11 Posted 06 May 2012 - 07:22 PM
so edit the bat, delete all the text and replace it with:
eDuke32.exe /xRedrum.con /gRedrum.grp -map Redrum.map

This is kind of late but I ordered a copy of Duke Nukem Total Meltdown for PC. It is a rare conversion with over 500 new levels but does NOT relate to the PS1 port of Duke Nukem 3D with the same name. It is should be at my estate in a week or less. And I will need help installing.

I haven't heard of this collection, but chances are that the 500 maps are fairly crappy, and their sole purpose for being on the disk is for the whole "large number of maps included!" angle. Some of the maps could be good, but others wouldn't even be worth looking at.
You can guarantee that you're playing qualtiy maps by checking out some of the review sites. There are currently 2, completely independant review sites for Duke 3D maps, both of which host many maps, many of which are high quality.
Check out the hot maps page here: http://msdn.duke4.net/
And the map listings page here: http://www.scent-88.com/
Duke Nukem: War of Attrition is a gameplay mod that also includes a few episodes of very high quality maps (which means you don't have to look around for them). http://fissile.duke4..._attrition.html
There are also some very nice TCs around, some of them are available here: http://wiki.eduke32....2_Modifications but there are some others which also deserve a playthrough.
Sorry for the information overload. I hope you can find some maps/mods that you like.

When I delete all the text and put eDuke32.exe /xRedrum.con /gRedrum.grp -map Redrum.map in it says " This file is set to read only. Try again with a different file name." This is off topic, but is there a console command for god mode, infinite ammo, and all items?

It's hard to take you serious after what you posted in the other thread, but I'll answer none the less
right click on the bat file
select properties
at the bottom of the window that opens should be a check box that says "read only"
make sure that's unchecked
method # 2
delete the original bat
open notepad
copy the eDuke32.exe /xRedrum.con /gRedrum.grp -map Redrum.map to the new file
save as redrum.bat to the duke directory
cheats:

That Worked! Thanks! For some reason the console commands don't work. It says "Invalid code or cvar".

"All Duke Nukem 3D cheat codes are to be used when you are playing the game. These are not command line, menu, or console commands."
just type the code on your keyboard while in game

It's best done on the go as holding buttons does not interfere with the code. Only pussies pause the game.

Is this sarcasm? It's best to pause the game because there are issues with unintended item activation... the "N" in "DN" activates the night vision goggles because we can't very well lock out item activation every time someone using a WSAD layout (the default in EDuke32) decides to move backwards.

Sarcasm? Not really, except in the sense that of course it's better to pause the game but at least I find myself often inputting a cheat while moving in some direction, i.e., "on the go", particularly when I'm checking a map for something concerning design. So, I might start with dnclip & dnhyper and type the rest while I'm already rushing to wherever I want to go. I don't remember ever accidentally activating, say, the goggles while typing dnkroz, unless of course I screw up the code.

Edit: I bet this is not a well known cheat code.

Clearly something related to Iron Maiden.
