Duke Nukem Font
#1 Posted 27 January 2012 - 11:27 AM
I´m planning to create a German DN3D-Website for reviews and tutorials for mapping/modding.
So I have one question: Is there a Duke NUkem font out there which I can use for graphics?

Well, why not?
BUT, sedition, there has been a German language "Duke's[sic!] Stammtisch" subforum right here which had almost no more traffic at all before it vanished when this website got its new look last year. So be warned that you might be disappointed because of too few visitors to your site since the Germans have switched to English as far as our hero is concerned. But I'd read your reviews, of course.

I couldn't name any. But I don't search either since this place is enough for me.

That´s it. Sometimes there are things in some mapping tutorials (MapFaq, InfoSuite,...), which I don´t understand and wish that there would be a German translation. So I decided to create a German DN3D site for reviews and mapping tutorials in German language. Also I think the DN3D-mapping scene here in Germany is so small because not many people know what is possible with eDuke32 and Mapster nowadays.
I also plan to make this wevsite in English in the near future.

If dubbing was cheaper or a country like, say, Denmark, had 90 million inhabitants, they'd do it, too.
We even have a German Wikipedia with a million articles.

Agreed. Too much CSI and the likes. Didn't watch much besides some football during the last couple of months.

Well, that's not a matter of language.

Go to France and you'll reconsider. The excuse for the English is at least that their language is indeed the most widespread non-native one.

Also, I tried watching friends a few times. It was boring and just not funny. It might be a case that other shows I've seen have copied their jokes so the jokes seem old to me, but that doesn't change the fact of how boring it is.

Yeah, my own and my friends' experiences might be counted to the "older ones". My last visits to France were to Strasbourg (beautiful) were you get along with German anyway.

I'm impressed you remember that!
It's still in our database but we deactivated it from appearing for the reason you mentioned.

While English is probably the most widely spoken language on Earth you can rest assured there are some serious competitors... such as French, Spanish... and German. (and others)
Making a site intended for German-speaking people is not that crazy. However, I expect the 'market' so-to-speak for German Duke fans is a bit niche.

The closest thing to a Duke Nukem 3D font is one called "Daidoh" that was used for the menus of the XBLA port. It is a good font and it is fairly unique.

Nah. “Für Scheiße stinkst gut” or “Scheiße, dein Wille geschehe” - or "Wat Da Fack did George was dinking?"
This reminds me did they ever issue a German version, with actual German sayings?

There's a fairly new site by Puritan, who used to moderate the duke repository. It's got a rapidly growing map database, and a slowly growing forum. Of course the forum mostly consists of people who tend to post here or at AMC, but it's a nice little out of the way forum: http://www.scent-88.com/

Indeed. Never went there. Can't test right now because the automatic update forces an epic download (DLC? without asking if I'd buy it?).
EDIT:
Ouch! How on Earth could I miss that?
Manfred "außer Tiernahrung" Lehmann! So playing the German DNF feels like being Bruce Willis raiding a hardware store.
