jace hall 08' question

decided to youtube the old jace hall footage, and damn, what the hell version did he play? it's been so long i had forgotten what was shown, but it's amazing how much better that game looks. is there any detailed info out there that lists the differences in the builds or versions? or, just really any info relating to what was cut, what was in other builds.
it's ironic that at the end jace hall just praises the game saying basically it "was worth the 12 year wait... and maybe more".
i know the game was cut down in an effort to even have a 'finished' game but, geez, just how much was cut? it just seems so much different (weapon select wheel, etc.).

sorry if this has already been done/discussed to death.

*edit - has jace hall ever talked about the differences in what he did play and what is out?

He hasn't and we don't know what version. TDWCM is the closest to the jace hall version of DNF we will ever see. The ammount of cutting that was perfromed in DNF was terrible. Who wouldn't prefer getting the Jace hall version this Christmas instead of the game that was released. GBX should have made the decision to delay the game for another few months, although I understand why they wanted to push it out the door so quickly.

So quickly? They were already sitting on the game for at least a year.

The big underwater worm seemed to stalk Duke building up to its boss fight. You can see it howling at Jace when hes playing.
Theres also that very small thumbnail picture that was in a magazine.
And then theres the leaked demo reel where you fought it underwater and had scuba gear.

In the final version, you kinda just... end up randomly underwater and fighting it out of nowhere.

Theres a part where Jace was running up a spiraling cavern-ish area fighting pigcops and giant boulders were rolling down (its part of the Jace video that came out when 3DRealms laid off everyone) which is absent from the final game. The only area similar to this is when you run up a spiraling staircase as a pigcop throws barrels down at you.

Theres also a spot where Jace sees two Dam workers running across a bridge as a pigcop knocks one of them off. I'm pretty sure this area is in the final game, however this sequence doesn't happen.

has jace hall ever talked about the differences, the then and now, or anything? i would think that would be pretty interesting; getting his perspective since he did play, what we can only assume were actual parts to a real game. i wonder how much he actually got to play...

i'm a little perplexed as to why they would change things like the weapon menu. not only did it look awesome but i mean, i would think that, that part was done. so, why not use it? that's one thing less you'd have to do. but then again, i don't know a thing about programming or coding or w\e, so i may sound retarded.

It was a decision that was made later to appease consoles.

It's really not that different, there are a few places that were left out then of course the weapon selection, but saying "it looks so much better"? It's the same game.

there were a lot of things in there not in the game (locations and all). i also more or less meant how i like how the menu, the orange pods, colors looked better. the polish of the weapon selection looked like something that wouldn't even be possible on the dnf that's out. i dunno, maybe that's something they had to cut because it was really only feasible on a pc. jace's reaction though was just so positive and that it looked to be worth the wait, and i just didn't get anything near that when playing dnf. it just feels like a shell of a game; like a lot is missing.

Jace's reaction don't mean shit when we're comparing that to shipped full length DNF.

A few things, not "a lot".
You can't compare his reaction with your own and based on that draw the conclusion that the beta was better. What did he think of the full game? And could any game that's not the best game ever be worth that wait?
