I wonder. The Queen from Duke 3D is based on the alien movies, but she gets her own style in the game. But if they made the Queen like Duke 3D but with that creppy horror movie style all monsters have in Forever, wouldn't it look way too much like the Alien movie series?

Duke's Queen is amphibian and the cranium/head is completely different from the Aliens' Queen.

Im not sure if you meant creepy or crappy, but this made me chuckle. Notta one of the redesigns did anything for me in terms of making them creepier, they all felt just a bit more generic. The Piggies kinda lost all their goofy Ninja Turtles/Gremlins esque charm.


AH, but i'm getting off topic here. I think the alien queen redesign as it was seen in DNF was probably more like what they would have liked to do back in the day of Duke3D, but simply didn't have the capability at the time, and so went with a more conventional look for the queen to fit in with the other bosses. I don't think they changed it for copyright reasons (Nor would they have had to, given their obsession with giving things breasts, that would have made any similarities fall under parody imho)

Just in case anyone thinks it or is wonders or whatever... the Alien queen in Aliens was actually designed by James Cameron and not H.R. Giger.... he wasn't even involved or responsible for the revisions done in Aliens it was all Cameron\Stan Winston there. H.R. Giger didn't seem to do any designs for the Alien franchise after the first one and for the "Dog Alien" in the third one and was screwed over by the studios so I'm surprised he agreed to return for Prometheus which he did some designs for.

What pictures are you looking at? The Alien queen is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the Queen for the first time.

Crested head, secondary limbs on the mid-section, roughly the same size. There are some similarities. And given that 3DR took from Aliens quite a bit, its not surprising.

I'd say it doesn't look incredibly like the Aliens queen. HOWEVER, I would say the Protector Drone is heavily inspired by the Xenomorph and the Species alien (also designed by H.R. Giger.) In turn, the Queen just looks like a bigger nastier Protector Drone. Although, I think the DNF queen is unrelated. There aren't any Protector Drones in the game.

The slimer eggs looks exacly like the ones from aliens. And lol at the player from helel's video

Not quite, but the inspiration is there. The pods from Blood are closer in design, while the eggs are closer in coloration.

It was pointed out in the HRP thread a while back that at least a couple of Duke3d textures were pretty much ripped from this Giger art. (there may be others out there):


Even Duke 1 and 2 are no strangers to ripping off art.

That's awesome. I always thought that there was a strange familiarity every time I looked at those textures or Giger art. Never made the connection.

I'm pretty sure I posted that very image in that thread for reference for that one texture that has a portion quite literally ripped from it. Might be the exact same one too I remember looking for a higher resolution version to help out.

Yeah, I was the one working on a high res version of the tile, then someone discovered it was a Giger rip off.
There's 2 textures in Duke 3D ripped off from that one picture.
