Anyone else notice the shadows are all cast but disappear when you start/are moving? Or am I the only one experiencing this phenomenon?

Leveling *NEEDS* to be fixed. No debate here. I'm at level 29 and it's an absolute grind. Tying in leveling to achievements just ain't cutting it. This can be a relative simple(?) fix with bumping up experience points with individual kills(dm) or a bigger reward for the winning teams(ctb/httk, team dm).
I'm with Kaiser. I like multiplayer, it's a lot of fun. I don't like doing it just for the achievements. Then each time I go do a match, I have to keep thinking, okay this round, let's try and shoot for this achievement. Instead of actually focusing on playing the game. I guess I've been sort of like this ever since WoW because DNF's multiplayer works like of like WoW's "carrot on a stick" idea. For example, hit level 38 and get a slot machine. Hit level 30, unlock another babe. Rewards based on getting certain achievements or levels.

It's starting to get really hard to level up. I was at level 37 the other day, and I got 20,000 XP for taking back the control point 150 times, and I didn't level up to 38. It was quite shocking actually, it's the second biggest reward on the list (a few others are 20,000 as well), and it's the equivalent of killing 10,000 players.
The good news is that certain mutators are good for certain achievements. Eg shotgun only is good for shotguns, same for railgun only. Heavy weapons is good for devestator/RPG/enforcer, knuckle sandwich for sterioids and trip mines.

But it doesn't effect gameplay at all. It's just a dopey gimmick they use to pad out otherwise boring design. Yet people keep falling for it.

Are you talking about mutators or achievements? Because mutators can be really good proactive for certain weapons, or cut out overpowered weapons like the devestator and enforcer.

Then they better give us the FOV and console, or they can shove their two extra weapons up their asses!
Go through what ChrisF wrote, he clearly stated the FOV will be adjustable, and since it'll use VAC effectively, so the console will be available to us.

Maybe/hopefully they will also fix the bumpmapping issue. Anyway, listening to the players is always a good thing and surely is appreciated. Whether or not it will make the game easier will have to be seen (probably it will), but at least it's a good reason to play again. I was waiting for a patch before I start my 2nd playthrough, anyway.
Way before it's release and now months after, it seemed they weren't listening. Also, the way GBX at times made fans and future buyers of the game feel their voice and importance wasn't even a priority. So, how many players just gave up bombarding GBX with their opinions, suggestions, and don't even visit the GBX forums for whatever reason, we'll never know. But one thing's for sure, if we don't use other ways to be heard by GBX, we can expect other changes and improvements made in DNF to take forever, if at all.

This likely also explains why levels are split up so much. It felt like so many areas could have all just been one map. Likely also has to do with the epic load times. It seems that every issue this game has comes down to it being consolised.
Lots of console games have big areas. And lots of PC-only games have loading between levels. It's just DNF is really bad in that respect. For consoles it's even worse actually.

Naturally levels up to be split up somewhere, and loading has to happen, but DNF breaks it up at the most unexpected places. The level needs to finish after something important has happened, or if Duke's about to start something, in DNF, you walk down a hallway in the casino then the screen fades to black and you're sitting in front of the computer steaming, because what you've played so far wasn't that good and were hoping the rest/end of the level would be better. It really was broken up too much, there was an area in Duke Burger, where I don't think there were any enemies, you just had to overcome some small obstacle, and the damn level ended! The level only went for 2 minutes and nothing happened!
Gearbox really should have put some effort into making the PC version different from the console version. They were saying "there's no difference across the platforms" as if it's a good thing. This is only true if all the platforms are equal. They are not. It's like dumbing down a whole maths class because some of the students can't handle it. In that case you split up the classes and teach the harder maths to the good students.
It's like Triptych/Gearbox made a PC game, ported it to the consoles, and then ported it back to the PC. It's stupid.

That is more than just amusing when you consider that one of the reasons given for DNF taking so long to issue was that some of the devs were more interested in playing WoW than creating game assets. Where I used to work in tech support, 3 people were fired for playing WoW on the workstations - while they should be taking calls.

Care to provide a better source than the joke in Jace Hall Show?

Well all that people were using the jace hall joke as source so... there.

It's a known fact that WoW basically distracts you from doing whatever you were supposed to be doing. For example, if someone was supposed to do their laundry and they just played WoW all day, then their laundry wouldn't get done. If 3DR hadn't played WoW, then the game probably would have been finished sooner. I'm not sure how much WoW they played, but if there was a reference there, they at least played some WoW.
#77 Posted 30 July 2011 - 07:30 AM
There were a number of interviews where it was stated. One was a guy who used to be an animator on DNF before 3DR folded. I don't want to go googling loads of old interviews, if you don't believe me, then so be it.

Fuck Gearbox and their "unsupported features." It basically means they're too lazy-assed to actually put half-decent effort into it. "Ooooo buy our game it's got dedicated servers..." "buy our game we'd like to release mod tools maybe..." "buy our game we're changing the weapon system so it's slightly more like how we should have changed it to be in the first place"
Nailed that one; 100% methinks.

Achievements. I'm 100% in favor of mutators and loved how they changed things up in the old UT days. Although 90% of the servers used instagib.

What people? Source perhaps?
George Broussard has said it multiple times. He played a lot of WoW and gambled all the time.

With the four weapon limit, if Duke can lift the world (has that statue in his place), then he can certainly carry all the weapons.
