sorry to ask a stupid question, but some images look like actual sets/maps, last image of previous post (#32), looks too good to be just a photo. Can you tell me which is a photo and which are maps? Posted Image

Pic 3 seems to be a model render, the ninth shot, the last two thumbnails and all the 3 from the second post do are computerized images don't know if they're actually from a map or something. The rest are real photos.

Thanks man! I love the ninth! The last thing I want is to 'remake' something from another game, so if it is computerized, it's hopefully save to work on it. Posted Image

For the map I am working on right now, I am drawing a limited amount of inspiration from Clock Tower 3.

I have plans for a later project which will draw more inspiration from my favorite game, Haunting Ground.

Though I am not sure I will have the skill and ability to actually pull this off and wether I even try depends on the success or failure of my upcoming project. Still, by all mens, draw inspiration from them if you wish.

Another thing I draw inspiration from is the town aroud me, I literally sit on Google Street View and look around my city, usually to decide what textures to use and what shape to make a building. Just type Hull, United Kingdom into Google. I also keep meaning to attempt to map the bridge.

Creative mapping and Polymer lighting will take you far, but for that extra bit I think custom textures will be needed to get the look you are after.

I know you're familiar with my WIP Graveyard TC. It was originally going to be a haunted mansion like your pics but my mapping skills were not up to the task of detailing so much stuff inside the mansion. So I opted for a cemetary with some crude underground passages and rooms instead. I am very happy with how its turning out but I still miss doing a mansion map.

Nice pics. I have never had problems with inspiration. I've just been getting tired of building fairy quickly resulting in MANY unfinished maps. I still have ideas for at least ten killer mods - but lack of free time and mostly lack of power to build are the problems. And after months of building, coding and editing only a small group of people will play it. It feels then like I've wasted few months of my priceless lifetime. I've been making maps for myself with a motto: want to play in a cool locations - do these locations yourself :-/

Sorry for the heavy bump. But Tiltan College, games development floors are my new inspartion for a mini level or a part to my map/s. Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I think this whole topic is really interesting and might be quite useful.

I work in the wind tunnel where we mostly check wind loads on high-rise buildings (it is quite literally a blow-job...), so I get to work with many real-life urban layouts. Just yesterday I thought this might go well with Duke maps, so I'm dropping some photos. It could be interesting to see a diferent approach - the models need to only recreate shapes, so people can base their maps just on the layouts in the terms of shapes, heights etc. of the buildings, but as they're pretty much blank, the choice of textures can be left completely unbiased to the author's imagination. If anyone would be interested, I can provide more pictures or perhaps even Sketchup models for some of these. It's mostly centre of Warsaw and centre of Birmingham.

you know i've always loved build maps with tiny fake things built in it. its a fake representation in an already fake looking world it gets so surreal so quickly. we need more of that

The Oresund bridge and undersea tunnel (connecting Malmo and Copenhagen) is just asking for a visit from Duke and the aliens.

I have always thought bridges and tunnels are underused elements in the Build engine, despite probably giving some spectacular results. I'm always a sucker for both (visited Norway's prestigious Laerdaltunnel for example), they are the pinnacle of mastermind human engineering!

That's awesome and I agree about bridges and tunnels, although when it's just them, it might be too linear for a map. Nevertheless, when I look at the 3rd photo from your post and squint, I can basically see Duke's textures on it already ;)

I've been to Malmö and Copenhagen and taken that train multiple times, and what's funny is it's a location that never really struck me as suitable for Duke (whereas I can usually sense that kind of stuff too, spontaneously), I think because of the linearity of the journey like Aleks was saying. The sights are nice though, of course; I imagine you're sort of picturing an European version of Golden Carnage with that idea? Here I think the settings would work if the mapper really simplified them and also organized the level around a central two-way train, but those are notoriously hard to control (as in, turning into even slightly long rides). You may be onto something with that concept, but there are many other places around Malmö and Copenhagen I think would function better as a Duke 3D level. For a bit I was pondering the idea of recreating Christiania (I'm sure the locals would have loved it too, /s).

I think it can work inside an episode only (maybe inside your episode ;)). I've never been to Malmo sadly, but visited Copenhagen multiple times, and it has some nice locations to visit. The airport is pretty interesting as well, with metro and train stations, hotels, and even has a nearby "beach" and some really nice real estates around. The tunnel/bridge can work only if the level takes place around the central hub on the artifical island, and you can visit the simplified bridge part as well (I guess, partly ruined). Probably the previous level takes place around the airport, and finishes inside the train after a train station. But it doesn't have to be THAT Oresund bridge, only something similar, inspirational.

Another interesting piece is the Hardanger in Norway: https://en.wikipedia...ardanger_Bridge
It's a very interesting suspension bridge with a nonlinear (well, in Duke language) tunnel systems around.
