Duke 2001 Trailer Remake Thread  "help finding left overs and references while playing the game"

User is offline   zwieback

Once the game is released i want to remake the 2001 trailer as good as possible and replace missing parts with parts that are comparable.
I think a lot of people are actually interested in doing this, so why not team up and do this together - it could be interesting and great fun.

So why is zwieback starting this thread before the game has been released?
It's because i want to use the silence before the storm - everybody interested please watch out for snippets and references to the 2001 trailer and report them here.

I want to be a part of this. The only way to make it exactly the same is to use the same song too...

Was the song available without the dialogue and sound effects?

Perhaps it's here? Not sure about it, as I don't want to install that dreaded Apple software.

For obvious reasons, I'm not in the mood for this.
Good luck though. (You'll have to replace a lot of cut content).

You may want to take a look at this http://forums.duke4....2001-breakdown/

yeah saw this one - we will know if the whole project is even possible after we played the singleplayer.
if this is a 99% different game, i for myself won't bother doing this - but if it is similar to the 2001 game, i'm going to invest quite some time in that :dukecry:

Impressive... 49 itens... but only 9 fakes and 29 playable?
So what? :dukecry:

PS: By the way:

Clarification: The ideas expressed for those sort of things were definitely a part of the DNF "intent" at the time (otherwise the models wouldn't have been built). But the actual implementation shown in the video was done for the video to communicate the intent. Think of it like the trailers for games that use pre-rendered stuff... except we were using the engine itself.

While that trailer is awesome, you cannot play it.

...what? :dukecry:

I am assuming that the purpose of the OP is to create a DNF 2001 trailer based mod for DNF 2011.

No. Just to remake the trailer with DNF 2011 tech.
0

#19

Even if that is true, then they would have to remake those sections in DNF, the end result would be you could play them. The OP is definitely talking about re-creating actual 2001 trailer scenes and gameplay.

Edit:

I am specifically talking about this:

No he is not. He is talking about trying to find scenes in the full game that is new versions of the same scenes or the most similar he can find and remake the 2001 trailer using the final game. For instance replace the EDF guy sequence with the one from the new game just to name one that is still in the game. Another would be the bug that's different but the general idea is still the same.

I think this should work out pretty good. There should be enough material in the full game to make a pretty close remake of that trailer.

the music at arkenstone's site is of the same quality - 128 kb/s. But given the trailer resolution - i'm not surprised. Just listen to the sound effects at the beginning - the sound really bad, like 72 kb/s or something :D

I wish arkenstone did the whole score!

Making music for a trailer and scoring the whole game is vastly different, I suspect.

Telee's trailer is "close, but no cigar". If I had the equipment to record high quality video off my PS3 I'd try to remake the 2001 video with the actual DNF myself, but I don't , so all I can do is tell zwieback what scenes can replace what we saw in the 2001 trailer.

The colors mean:
what was present in the 2001 trailer - similar scene, or scene with the same pacing, in the actual game

I would think the gunship and the window would be more accurately represented by the section where you're climbing Duke Burger and you're shooting at that one gunship with a devastator.

The keypad is even the same one as in 2001.

Btw, I thought the code would be same. So while playing the game I rewatched 2001 video and recorded the digits Duke was typing. Of course it didn't work.

The vegas view is identical from the trailer to what you see from Duke's mansion right after you kick the cycloid's eye into the goal. My suggestion is that you disable clipping, go out the window and pan around just like in the trailer.
