2kElizabeth just broke the news. It will be an unsupported feature, but it will be there.

By "not supported" does it mean that it will always stay like it is or is there a way for coders to improve upon?

#12

Yeah I wonder if you patch the game in future that the dedicated server will be patched aswell.

What? Are you saying it's not going to happen despite official confirmation from both Gearbox and 2k?

I think that means they just wont invest in any sort of customer support or documentation for getting their servers up and running. Or maybe even no further devolpment on it.

Sort of like a "if you know how to set it up you can" thing I believe.

Alright, keep on the look out for a Lost Brotherhood server in DNF. I might be able to convince my clan leaders to do one. Depending on how setting them up for DNF works out.

Just catching the tail end of the final DNF podcast with Randy and Chris. They said that they're working on getting further details to us ASAP about dedicated servers and that it will of course be free.

Oh man, I just had the shittiest day in a long time. My poor Hyundai has AIDS. Between the Four Loko and this news, it almost makes up for the massive amount of money I'm about to lose.

This game has the potential to be the next UT2003. I lived, breathed, eat and shat for that game back in the day.

Please Randy, release the mod tools!

The game is coded with a server browser.

For those with the experience to use them? Wtf, that makes it sound like most gamers are too stupid to know how to set a server up. Like they're trying to say "You can use dedicated severs but we aren't sure our fanbase knows how to use them."

Does this mean the feature will still be there after the game is patched?

Yes, but like they're saying, it will be unsupported.
This probably means in terms of customer service.

Well i don't care because i do know how to make a server, it's very easy.

Word. They are a bunch of fucking consolefags.

<- Currently setting up a UT99 server with win2k, command line options, TightVNC remote access and automatic rebooting scripts. Built from scrap, it's got a quantum bigfoot hard drive. Fuck yeah.

Yeah I loved how technical PC gaming used to be. I bankrupted myself TWICE as a teenager building new computers, because I loved fucking with fresh hardware, new games, and kept running out of space to store pictures of penises cats.

Tweaking the shit out of .ini files. Huge Intel/AMD/ATi/nVidia fanboy debates with REAL anger and REAL hate. Omega Drivers. Mods. Mod tools. Free mods that weren't so good. Free mods that RAWKED. Did I mention mods?

It's sad what gaming has become. Capitalist bullshit that people suck down cause they don't know any better.
