DNF Image analysis

Concerning the lacking shadows, I have one theory I believe it's correct.

Both the final trailer and 2009 builds showed there were plenty of shadows, it would be stupid just to remove them for the demo. It's nonseless.

As we all know, the desert level form the demo isn't even a whole level, just a small portion of a bigger one. Therefore, they had to edit a whole level, and alter it to what we have witnesed.

I'm not much into level editing, but from my point of view, the level from the final game had to be edited and manipulated, and perhaps the overall lightning was affected, making the look of the level dull and ugly.

I don't know if it's denial, but I believe the game will get a graphical boost, as far as shadow are concerned.

Just my two cents.

The older build seemed to have an omni light with fully activated dynamic light. That would make everything cast a shadow. But definitely not good for performance on consoles.

Can't wait for some modders- TX and Parkar (to name a few)to get some mods to us. :(

I'm already thinking a new texture project? Custom skyboxes? Regular health bar with
med pacs? Weapon wheel?

Maybe play it vanilla first before modding? Just a thought.

I hope someone puts it back too, but IMO it's best to play vanilla first and see how it goes....what do you think?

This. At least spend a few weeks just taking the game in and stuff. This has multiple benefits. 1) You get to just play the game and have fun with it. Playing it through looking for ways to mod it is more like a chore than fun. Did you really wait all this time just to totally ruin your first week or so with the game? 2) If you mod too-quickly, like anything done too quickly, it might later become apparent that the mods aren't very good and ruin some parts of the game or something.

Of course. I meant "down the line/once the game has been out awhile". Just a clarification.

They are in the EXTRAS section, which is unlocked once you have completed the single player campaign.

That pic, like many other things, is just for showing off purposes.

I've taken a shot of the same area in the final game. It looks much more different.

Well... It DOESN'T. Gearbox didn't fix jack.

They took what Tryptich had done back in 2009 and fucked it up completely.

I could not believe when I saw it.

What have they done to the game?

Duke is shadowless for half of the game or more! It is just unbelivable!

The shadows that are still there look a lot better though, i.e. not as black as the blackest black hole.

Well your third picture will look exactly the same as the image in the 2011 FAC demo if you go to Video Settings --> Advanced option and turn OFF " Post Special Effects" . By default it is turned on or the box is checked. You have to turn that option OFF or uncheck that box, and voila, you get better graphics quality throughout the game :dukecry: !

I highly doubt the post-processing has anything to do with the shadows at all
