However, since I am using Office 2007, I can't see any benefit to upgrading to 2013 or even 2010. The file formats are the same and there are very little differences in the programs overall. I see no reason to actually upgrade my Office software so I'll just ignore the whole thing for now. If Microsoft were to come out with a new version of Office that greatly improves anything about the current version, I'll look back into upgrading.

Similarly, Vista had piss-poor performance (I had to triple my RAM to run it), and broke simple-ass shit like being able to drag onto a command prompt (useful for doing file compares or other file operations, especially for anal-retentives like me with lots of directories), which was fixed in Windows 7.
Did Microsoft have their heads up their asses in the mid-2000s?

Can't you use freeware for things like that? 400$ is way too much for a personal databases.

Did Apache fix the spelling of Open Office?
I switched to Libre when Oracle took over; and have no reason to switch back.

I have used both of those. Since then I have had money and/or access to closed source (Office, Photoshop). There have been Windows versions of those for a long time...a really long time.

I've also got a few mil of Spanish pesetas that were worth $15 or so back in the day. I can remember when $1 = 185 pesetas in the mid-80s, which was almost like getting $1.85 in terms of local buying power. Lots of gin, rum, and beer were bought by us teenage Navy brats back in the day.

I sometimes run across some American coins as well. I've got an American quarter in my wallet right now.

Well then, no Halo 3 or Halo 1 or 2 on Steam. Didn't really bother me anyway.

I heard a story once of a guy who was in Mexico and he gave the waiter a $5 bill to pay for two meals and the guy came back with a handful of change. He didn't think $5 was too much for what he did..

You can still get $2 bills in America. You just have to ask for them from the bank. If I had a local bank, I'd probably do it for fun.

I've got a few $2 bills, but you wouldn't believe how many idiots out there don't know they exist. And I wouldn't doubt something like that has happened, people always tip shittily, and I wouldn't doubt that hardly anyone tips down there. I always tip 20%-30%, and if it's less than five dollars, I usually give them five dollars. You have to be doing a really shitty job to get no tip from me.

@ Captain Awesome - I hate tipping. When I was flat broke, and some customers gave their great tip because I was such a charming good boy, the tipper had no idea how I boiled inside, I had to be nice all the time, even if (and especially when) a given customer was the biggest jerk around for miles. - Personally I give tips because of etiquette, not because I think it's right.

That simply doesn't happen in Australia. Everyone is on a fixed salary and when you go to a restaurant you pay for something and you get it, no ifs. Then again we don't really have places where the waitresses always come around filling up your cup with coffee. So the tips are for the coffee and the service filling it up? Do waitresses get paid a low salary and rely on tips for a decent wage?
