Guidelines...yeah...but there is a comment from Spat in a locked thread about the ice here being miles thick. So I suppose we have a while before the ice becomes so thin we sink right through and die terrible terrible deaths of hypothermia or drowning, whichever comes first.

You know that bring up an interesting topic, if you fell through ice into water what would you most likely die of?

Well, it depends on how well you can swim I suppose. Eventually you will likely die of hypothermia or something like that if don't find dry warm clothes and such...but if you can't swim, you are liable to sink and drown...or be eaten by a polar bear.

Don't your joints seize up when you start to go into hypothermia? So would you drown?

If you don't get out of the water, yeah. But I am assuming that a person who can swim makes it out of the water but then can't find warmth before hypothermia sets in.

Just a note, Googling "Duke Nukem cultureshock" brings up entertaining links. Including a thread here at Duke4.net and an article by Eurogamer in 03 saying how 6 years is getting too long to wait for DNF. This was before HL2 even came out. And CultureShock apparently posted in the comments.

There is a thread that mentions CultureShock enough for it to make it on Google? All of his posts were deleted; even the ones relevant and such.

That's what bothered me. If the user is banned then all his posts would be deleted? Because threads after that become truly troublesome to read.

They are confusing at best. You get posts responding to something and it makes no sense. It almost makes some of the posts in this thread and others seem like they are from crazy people.

Actually, the post that got on Google is someone showing the "you have chosen to ignore this user" thing about CultureShock's posts. Often you get people quoting him or iamthelaw so you can get an idea of where the argument was heading...

I'm not sure if a ban => all posts being deleted. I think it was done to prevent further responses to his inflammatory remarks. The same was done to iamthelaw recently. Can a mod explain this? Does a ban lead directly to all posts being deleted or is that just post-mortem humiliation?

I don't think I was around for the whole CultureShock fiasco/shining era....makes me feel like a newb. Can someone explain it to me? It's all so vague.

I wasn't around when he was at 3DR...but he came here for a while and there didn't seem to be any problems other than people doing the whole "omgz its cultureshock, he da troll!" thing. There was some interesting discussion in this thread involving him and then there is the "Why were you banned from 3DR" thread that was locked eventually in which he had some colorful remarks but nothing more inflammatory than what others were saying (including myself).
I'm not sure what happened that got him banned from here eventually though. It must have been something bad and since all of his posts are gone, one can't seek out the answer that mystery. I wouldn't be surprised if he just pushed the wrong buttons of TX or something. TX made a thread entirely composed of CS' posts and then deleted them all. He may have gotten tired of posts being reported (from the DNF forum, of course).

iamthelaw was banned most likely because he just constantly started stupid threads and then attacked anyone who disagreed with him. Blatant personal insults and such, crap like that. I don't think he was here very long; he may have been here less time than CultureShock.

iamthelaw was an idiot. I'm glad he's gone. He only lasted a few days at most.

But what kind of troll posts did CS make? I guess my real question is, why was CS so revered?

I still liked CultureShock... He wasn't whining at least with walls of text.

@ReaperMan: I disagree. I don't think CS ever claimed to be "in the industry" and if he did, I'm pretty sure he would have said what he worked on.

I think the thing is that he managed to hang on so long or something. One of those people who is just annoying enough to be hated but not bad enough to be banned forever until that time when he crosses the line. I imagine there were some major epic battles between him and other ancient posters from 3DR like Drazula or such.

CultureShock was always writing walls of text about how poorly he was treated by this and that. Always had a bug up his butt about George and Scott for some personal reason (Much like Enigma Hood, prick.). Always bragging about what he had done in the industry in terms of some kind of technology, or game. He was purposely and always vague about that crap. That if he showed us what he had worked on we'd be blown away by how far ahead of the curve he was, and when asked to provide proof, he'd use a deflection of "I could show you so many things, but it wouldnt matter, because you still wouldnt believe me. I dont need your affirmation." Insert metaphor after metaphor... blah blah. Banned, goodbye, thanks. :)

I've had that up there for 6 years and no one's seen it. Time to rekindle an old joke!

Enigma Hood is a fucking creep. Also for any oldies - Enigma Hood = Lengis from 3DR.

In other news, very happy to see Scott Miller is interested in doing new Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad games.

I wonder how Mr. Galt is doing these days... That is, I wonder if he would do the voice.

He did the voice of Tommy's grand father in Prey didnt he?

John Galt (IMDB Link) is doing pretty good, I guess. He's still alive, and is doing some minor work here and there. Yes, he was Tommy's Grandfather, and some other characters in Prey, too. I always found it kinda funny some old fat white dude did Lo Wang's voice. Apparently he's a black belt instructor in Tae Guek Kwan Kung Fu. He did LBJ's voice in Forrest Gump, I did not know that.

To completely change the subject, it is apparently Yatta's birthday...and it is allegedly a big one (21). I suppose he is out somewhere in a gutter in LA wasted/raped.
Happy birthday luv.
