Oh come on, the mass of the sun is so many hundreds of thousands of times greater than the sun edit: Earth that the centre of gravity of the system and the centroid of the sun virtually coincide. If you're going to be that technical about it, then theoretically everything in the whole universe has some effect on the orbit of the earth (based on our current theory of gravitational attraction that it only drops off exponentially with distance and thus should never quite reach zero).

the physics of what fox said are correct, but the example he used is over exaggerated. in an earth-sun only system the actual pivot point would be just off center of the sun's mass

it's also one of the methods to detect planets around distant stars. they look for the wobble
used to be they could only detect huge gas giants, but the technology has advanced enough to notice variations caused by smaller earth sized planets

I thought the method they used to detect planets involved a subtle, cyclic reduction in the luminous intensity of a star as planets pass between it and and the earth every "year". This of course becomes more accurate all the time, with us gaining the ability to find smaller and smaller planets as telescopes improve.

Of course they probably use a combination of different methods.

they use luminosity observations as well, but when the planet is small or the planet's orbital path does not cross between its star and the earth's point of observation they resort to other methods like the wobble which are easier to detect in those cases.

technology is getting better all the time. maybe someday we will have the tools powerful enough for direct observation

It is a 32 bit limit, not really an XP limit, per se.

However, it also isn't real. There are drivers available from hard drive manufacturers which allow for partitions larger than 2TB on 32 bit systems. At my old job, I installed two portable Seagate drives on some old XP systems with 4TB partitions.
