It wasn't acting aggressive at all. If anything the people who live in that neighborhood probably feed it and it was most likely looking for a handout.

she's just being stupid though. if she really was scared why she keep stopping and waiting for it?

What Jeff Martin of the Tea Party (Band)
And Jim Morrison of The Doors have in common?

They're extremely similar.

Would you guys consider CDs obsolete?

Edit:
I'm talking specifically about CD-R and CD-RW.

My usb slot on my stereo doesn't seem to read my thumb drives music...

My company still sells CDs...and lots of people buy them even though they have the option to buy MP3s.

I get the impression that lots of people, especially older people, don't even try to use an MP3 player for listening to things like audio books.

Not quite, but it's day is quickly approaching. Once the Baby Boomers are no longer a chief part of the market, they're gonna drop off. I never buy CDs far as music goes. I much prefer collecting analog formats, like cassettes and vinyl records.

Thanks for clearing that up a little.

I was just wondering because i was hearing that they will be soon, from a lot of sources. Personally, I always liked having an actual CD collection, not just a bunch of download songs.

Also Vinyl is awesome Jimmy.

They will what soon?

I collect CDs as much as I collect MCs and vinyl records, though obviously it's dictated by whatever media most of it is released on.

I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

I would only call CD-RW (and DVD±RW and DVD-RAM) obsolete, having been obliterated by USB flash memory.

I don't know what to call for CD-ROM. I wouldn't mind them biting the dust as long as DRM-free lossless materials are available for every album released. (Fuck iTunes.) Mastering is in a terrible shape nowadays. Damn loudness wars.

CD-R still have a place as "custom CD-ROM" as The Commander mentioned, albeit limited.

I use them, mainly because there's no USB drive in my girlfriend's car and partly because if you have to use CDs in a car CD-R discs draw less attention from thieves (A lot of people I've known have had their cars broken into and their original album discs taken, mostly just because the thieves could).

Frankly, and I know this ignores the specific area of CDs in discussion, CDs are nowhere near obsolete to me. In fact, given that I buy a lot of older albums alongside new releases, I save a lot of money buying the CD versions of older albums from Amazon sellers/charity shops ect than paying for iTunes/general MP3 downloads. Not to mention that with a CD you're not tied to one type of format per purchase, you can have anything from WAV and down (I don't know if you can get proper FLAC from a CD or not, not my usual format), and that's always handy.

The modern downsides of all types of CDs these are that they take up physical space and, depending on where you live, you can't usually get them as fast as downloads. But I'd personally rather save money and have a nice physical item to display with the rest than pay the same just for the digital files any day.

My two pence, anyway.

Why?

I regurarly buy CD-Audio and vinyls. Although, as far as the sound goes, digital formats(cd-a included) are better.

I don't use CD-Rs anymore. Mostly DVD-R, and for big jobs (eg. FSX backup), I used four BD-R discs. I do use a USB stick on occasion, but not that much (I have Windows 7 SP1 slipstreamed w/recent updates on this).

Why not use HDDs for backup?

What happens if the hard drive crashes? Need another backup. BD-R are highly scratch resistant, unlike DVD-R and CD-R and will last longer than a hard drive (5 years tops). I think BD-R was rated at close to a 30-200 year lifespan.

That's not a problem since you'd still have the original. Besides, it is preferable to have 2 backups in different locations anyway.

It depends on the usage. HDDs don't disintegrate in 5 years.

Are you doing backup or actual storage? You would need backup only if something happens with original.

Yes. I don't even have a drive in my desktop anymore and in the car I listen to music via AUX or USB. Physical media is pretty much dead to me.
