Complaints About Thr Trailer anyone? "Why complain?"
#1 Posted 23 January 2011 - 10:05 AM
However, funny thing is with everything in life, or for whatever someone does, someone will always complain about something about the subject, object, info, whatever, they nit pick on it. I was reading A long time ago, how alot of people here were bitching and groaning because they never got A release date, nor trailer...... for months and months, then when it finally comes out you have people saying the graphics suck, the video is censored blah blah blah, when some of those people complained about there being no media. Duke Nukem was never about the graphics in the first place thats my opinion, it started years ago when graphics never mattered at all, and every game was meant for fun. Starting from Zelda Ocarina of Time, to Majoras Mask, to Goldeneye, to Duke Nukem, im not sure if magazines even talked about graphics back then, although I could be wrong on that.
Personally I think everyone should be happy they got their trailer they wanted, and not to mention the biggest thing, an release date, that I cant believe people arent talking about, but more about the trailer.
So I want to ask everyone on A new thread instead, what are your complaints about the trailer if you have any?

My complaint is that the commentator sound is low, so I can't understand half the things he said, there was no grabbag music, the pissing section took too long to be done (I get the reference to DNF but seems like a cheap DNF joke lol it's taking forever lollll taking forever to piss lollll) Also there it lacked a crescendo of action, when you get some action it is suddently stopped with a musicless alien ship shooting with the devastator (I mean... why?).
It is the first trailer after 10 years if we don't count the teaser, it's supposed to make everyone cream their pants, SO MUCH ACTION THAT YOU CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE AND YOUR HEAD EXPLODES, get it?
Something similar to my version of the trailer : http://www.youtube.c...h?v=B0sWHrMGNpQ
I know I know, I'm shamelessly advertising my Trailer, but hey, it took me some long hours to make staying to 5 in the morning!

Hope this reply thing works lol, anyways yeah im just happy the trailer is out and there is A release date, I guess its just peoples acceptance on things, I have A low standard so, it was easy to impress me, if I had to complain about anything at all, it would be that the video was short, because we wait over 10 years and only got 2 mins worth of stuff but then again even thats fine because I was more anxious about seeing what the release date was lol.

You were probably either too young to read them or just didn't care about mags because graphics have been VERY important since well, pretty much forever.
Since you talked about Zelda and Goldeneye i take it you are a Nintendo fan , or at least enjoyed N64, Nintendo put a LOT of hype on the graphics it would muster , it was called the ULTRA 64 before release, they always hyped the fact that they worked with SGI to bring you the latest in 3d graphics.

As long as the game itself isn't censored I'm not complaining. I this this trailer was the best one yet.

DavoX, here is what is wrong with your version:
You removed the narration. The audio on it was fine, I can understand it perfectly. By removing the narration, you removed the story and made it much less interesting. The idea that Duke disappeared for a long time and is now coming back after another invasion is vital to the trailer. Also, you took out the shot of the aliens pulling down his statue. Maybe because it didn't make sense after you removed the story? And when Duke says, "Why do they always take the hot ones?" the viewer doesn't know what he's talking about because there is no narration. You also removed most of the humor.
Yes, grabbag was a good replacement. Yes, he was pissing too long in the official one, and I'm sure some of your other edits were improvements. I also liked the way you ended it. But overall, the official version is better.

I just hope that they can keep this up for a whole game. And they said that this is going to be a BIG game. Can't wait.
#9 Posted 23 January 2011 - 02:03 PM
Also this trailer I made is for the people that knows Duke's history. I agree that the official version is better for people that don't know Duke (I.E. the console customers).
I agree though I could've thought it out better. But my trailer is like a doom game, the story doesn't matter, only the non-stop action

I think it was a joke. I mean duke being at stripperbars all the time xD We will probably know more when we see the game. But that is my theory.
Most games start with the narrator saying that the main person is a forgotten hero. Duke is forgotten because he had been on stripbars all the time xD

Or... maybe it has something to do with, you know, the game taking 14 years to come out?

Yup that's right.
Back then Nintendo's president was Hiroshi Yamauchi,a man that always wanted Nintendo consoles to have better graphics than other consoles. (NES,SNES,N64)
Since 2002 when Satoru Iwata became Nintendo's CEO,Nintendo stopped caring about graphics, stopped caring about 3rd party support, and started to make their games even more childish.
@jhect: Yeah there was humour but I don't think it was the main element of DN3D,as far as I remember dn3d was never advertised as a "comedy" the way Gerabox represents DNF.
I think that the main thing of dn3d was the attention they paid to the detail, which made the game more immersive.
There where also many puzzles, and from what I remember the actual jokes in dn3d weren't that many.

* The footage was taken from far too many different builds (check the content like duke's gloves etc.) - they should make a single trailer based on a single build, showing everything that's really cool to try and grip the audience, which brings me onto point number 2
* As far as I'm concerned, it's not even a proper trailer. The entire trailer seems to be cut from random snippets of video they just had lying around. Having seen the leaked footage from 2009, I can tell you the stuff they put into that trailer is not even close to how cool it could have been if the trailer was actually planned, rather than slapped together. It really is just a bunch of random scenes thrown together separated by music beats.
* The footage quality varied too much and quite frankly, 90% of the trailer looked really washed out and crap. Nowadays, you would expect trailers to be crisp, captured digitally. Half of that footage looks like it was recorded using a DVD recorder, then ripped off the DVD for the trailer, that isn't how you cut a trailer these days. You either capture the footage digitally using proper equipment or at the very least use something like fraps
* While it isn't a complete waste of bandwidth, of all the trailers I've seen for DNF, this one is definitely the worst, both the 1998 and 2001 trailers were amazing, and sadly even the leaked footage from 2009 was better than the 2011 trailer. The 2009 leaked footage actually had me going "this is awesome!" - and having watched it again after the 2011 trailer, I still prefer the Brewer trailer, if you can call it that.
* Finally, some of you might disagree, but seriously GBX, what's up the music?! Just use grabbag, everyone already loves it, and more importantly, it gets people in the mood.
Raz.

and as for the censoring, gearbox cant change the law so deal with it, is it really that big a deal you dont get to see tits and ass made out of pixels, you'll see it when the games released. try youporn for now.
as for the rest of the trailer, it did the most important thing it intended to do, which was grab the spirit of duke, showing all the old weapons in action, the one liners, and what else to expect.
P.S graphics are fine, if you want the latest ZOMG amazing graphics play crysis 2.

I agree with this. So many people complain about stuff that really doesn't matter. If games have the best graphics ever, then it's cool. But if the graphics are not the best or maybe even bad, then thats fine too.

The complains about music are perfectly justified. As for the censoring we have every right to complain as I know this trailer is only going to be shown online, so there is no reason to censor it. The only time that should happen if it is shown on T.V.
And yes the Graphics are fine but i think there are a few scenes from a differant build which should have been removed and replaced. Also I like the new model for Duke althougth this wasn't needed as the model 3DR had, was perfect as they acually listened to us and changed it accordingly. GBX i notice has given Duke the ape lips again if you know what i mean.

May mother-tongue is not English, but I know the language good enough to speak free and and get things. I understood it only after I had watched the trailer approximately for about 5 times.
Here what a narrator says:
I use to tell stories of a man who saved the world
man whose very presence send aliens runnning back
to their motherships
the man who dissapeared without a trace
When the invaders came back... they came back angry.
They tore our planet apart, bit by bit
But they made one mistake. They shouldn't have gone
after our women.

If you couldn't figure it out, the correct answer is none.
I'm all against censorship but I really think you're laying the blame on the wrong people. It's not like you're buying the trailer, just get the game in its pure uncensored form when it's out instead.

Also hoping that theres no bull-shit have to be online DRM, but these days I think thats all that a big publisher is going to give you. Unless its console which has its own protection.
You can kind of see why PC games have been dried up by consoles despite the performance vs. cost of the two. Monitors and tvs are basicly the same(technically they always were, with some differences) so a console and a pc are now very similar.
Of course a developer has more protection on a console from pirating, its hard to move physical media vs. digital.
However, by the numbers the fight against piracy is really a stupid money costing battle, like the war on drugs. Its fine to have serial codes, that was sufficient and cheap. Sure there were generators, but then you risked virus so there is a cost to software theft. The whole thing is really just a matter of greed vs. rational thinking. If you sell the product and make money, you made money, if not then its childish to speculate on money that could of been made from people who had no intention or means to actually buy it.
But this has been said before in different ways, and thankfully there are games out there that aren't covered by a stupid DRM. Although I think it wasn't possible to do it anyway, its nice that Duke3d is offered as DRM free. Its kind of like a special sales tactic spawned by the fear of piracy.
