So a collectors edition? "For sure buy"
#121 Posted 25 February 2011 - 01:41 PM
I remember someone posted a video on youtube of a fake collector's edition with radioactive ham and other stuff like that (I don't remember exactly what). It was an obvious fake for the sake of lol but it would still be better than this box !

Artwork book did it for me
This is primarily why I'm buying the BOSE as well, the other elements are comical, but have no lasting value in my eyes. I would have liked to have seen a collection of all the Duke PC titles (Duke 1, Duke 2, DNMP, Duke 3D Atomic, DNF) and a digital archive of DNFs progressions over the years (unreleased screenshots and videos) along with the art book as part of the BOSE, but I'm unsure what sort of work would be entailed for that.

Just a question : is there anything in that box that reminds you of Duke ?
Everything does. DNF takes place in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. The game starts in his Casino/Penthouse/Hotel. The bust, the photos, the cards and the poker chips are all there.

honestly how can you have a Duke Nukem collector box without a porn magazine, a bullet or even a copy of Duke's classic sunglasses ?
A porn magazine would be fucking stupid (they're not going to do something like that anyways). A bullet even so. You can go buy Duke's classic sunglasses already.

This thing is just stupid merchandising without anything related to the classic Duke elements in it. I was afraid that 2K Games/Gearbox would kill Duke Nukem, this is even worse than what I thought !
This is DUKE NUKEM FOREVER. Again, all these things are in the game and are considered Duke elements.
3D Realms was giving out Duke Nukem Lady Killer casino poker cards and chips way back in 1998!

Well I wasn't aware of that...but still, it doesn't belong to the Duke classic elements and looks more like random merchandising. This is stuff you're more likely to end up throwing in a drawer and forget about it because the game is the only interesting thing. It isn't really worth the price.

These are suggestions I made because it's things that always belonged to the Duke Nukem universe (at least from DN3D) and that we immediately think of when pronouncing the holy name of Duke.

Seems "more like random merchandising" to me.
Also, Duke doesn't wear his classic shades in DNF.

You're not understanding the point: this is DNF, not Duke Nukem. This is not like some Duke Nukem collectors item. This is the special edition of a specific game called Duke Nukem Forever. Which makes everything in this collectors edition relevant to the game, not just Duke by himself.

I got the point, it's just that I find it disappointing. DNF was supposed to be the climax of Duke's history, therefore it would have been more logical to make a collector's box with classic elements in it. I mean a card game appearing in the first level doesn't make it worth the buy, just like it also wouldn't if it contained a soda just because Duke buys one in the game (for example).
To sum up,, it's just a sucker bait.
Now I don't want to convince you in any way, I'm just giving my two cents on it, you do what you want with your money, but I'm pretty sure you'll regret having paid for that.

I'm sure I won't.

I never thought of Porn magazines when someone mentioned Duke. I mean he gets the women, he doesn't need no jackingoff magazine.
#130 Posted 25 February 2011 - 09:19 PM
Well, as they can't put a woman in the box, it could be a replacement. Plus there are posters of porn movies all over DN3D, it is more about the spirit than the thing in itself.
#131 Posted 25 February 2011 - 09:36 PM
That's what they are doing with the current BoS Edition then.
#132 Posted 26 February 2011 - 03:04 AM
There ought to be an adult edition with porn. Would make more sense than all the stupid kiddie stuff in the current edition.
On the contrary, I've always thought of Duke as the great masturbator; he loves pleasuring himself. He probably reads porn magazines like the rest of us read comics.

There is now an edition of DNF that falls between the standard and Balls of Steel versions. It is called the King edition and it is exclusive to EB Games in Australia (not sure if Gamestop in the United States has it but I would assume they do)
The picture is self explanatory:

Personally I'm not really a fan of having a whole heap of editions for one game and I will be sticking with my BOSE but it should be a good alternative for fans who can't afford the full package and want a little bit more.

I would get that if it included First Access Club like the Duke's Big Package offer.

Hah! Knew they'd sneak some bubblegum in somewhere.
That bubble gum needs to have steroids aroma, if they want to convince us of it's uniqueness!
