Duke It Out in DC - Download  "Can I share Duke It Out in DC here? For me it's an abandonware"

Can I share the full version of "Duke It Out in DC" here? Some people (or many people) that read the forums probably don't have it.
For me it's an "abandonware". This expansion is very good and you can't find it today (not even in GOG.com).
(Sorry if this question was already answered).

EDIT: Ok, link removed ¬¬

No, you should not. Abandonware does not exist in reality and the term is mostly used as an excuse for pirating. Of course I can understand that if there is no legal way to obtain a copy even those who try to be good persons otherways will search for 'alternative' sources. Those who desperately want it will find a way to get it. But please do not use this place for spreading that stuff. Although the copyrights are not enforced currently there is still an owner.

EDIT: Well, I'll post the download link. I can't find a "forum-rules"-like topic, so if it's not allowed please tell me.

Obviously you didn't even bother to search. Just look at the top left of this page while you are reading this. First topic of the Forum Guidelines: "- Respect copyright laws"

I agree about "Abandonware" pretty convenient term if you want to steal something. Is such a conflicting area with software. I do not ever duplicate software. I have a copy of DooM for every computer in the house for instance. That is how it is supposed to work. I handled all the computer related legalities for the company I worked for 14 years.

If there is no legal way to obtain a copy, then you have two options... steal it an be an un-convicted criminal, or not have a copy. Simple, but not what people want to hear as most peoples right an wrong is simply what they can get away with vs what they can't.
Moral debates don't hold up well on forums though, so not going there.

I would like to see a more specific rule on forums to address this directly as the problem is often unclear, which states that "There is no such thing as Abandonware."
In the 80's there was always the argument that you needed to see if the software would work for you before you spent thousands on it... valid. But too many times it was used as an excuse to pirate it. I was nearly fired in the 90's for refusing to pirate a software we used. In the middle of it, Auto-Desk came to town and busted the parent company for 20+ illegal copies and my point was made for me... but I was still resented by the owners for refusing a direct order to break the law.
Software Piracy is a personal sore spot for me due to this, which ultimately brought my demise at the company.
This is why Shareware is such a great thing to me... :P

As far as old Duke Nukem games, it can be bought... it is unfortunate the original makers can no longer benefit from this, but still, the software can be legally bought second hand or as new-old stock from eBay and other sources.

That was not a well thought out reason for "sharing" it... :P

Shipped anywhere in the world pretty much and less expensive than I expected really.

I do agree... all three of those add-ons (Caribbean, Duke it out in D.C. and EVEN Nuclear Winter) were pretty good... in that order. Inventive more so that "good" for Nuclear Winter though. :P

The owners of Duke DC rights do not even exist today. I wasn't giving the oportunity to anyone steal anything becouse there is NO way that Sunstorm can loose or earn with this expansion since they're not selling it.

**edit**

Uh, wait... on eBay they sell second handed copies? Oh well... *cough* the producer will earn alot of money with it *cough*.

Your ignorance is amazing. Just because they are not selling it currently, how on earth do you derive a right to give away their property for free?

Curious, A year back I checked this site and it was very... different, like a single white page with little information and the sumstorm logo. Probably I went to the wrong link.

F*ck you idiot. I created this topic just to see if I could share some files and you two came calling me a thief, ignorant and whatever else (and I already removed the link by myself). I didn't know that sumstorm are still active. If the company was "dead" they would never do anything with these files. Yeah, that's my idiot point of view.

A moderator can close or delete this f*cking topic now.
Thanks :P

You didn't find out the forum rules. You didn't find out Sunstorm's existence. Both wouldn't have taken more than a couple of seconds. You are a lazy ignorant.

Agreed, it's idiotic to assume that copyrights simply vanish by some kind of magic, the company in question being still alive or not.

Obviously there is bitter need to state at regular intervals that you can't make facts disappear by ignoring them.

You miss the point... when you buy the game, you agree to the conditions usually by opening it. Actually you only buy the right to play the game. It is illegal to modify it in most cases, distribute it, etc. It isn't just yours to do as you wish with it... you only have the legal right to play it, unless otherwise specified in the legal agreement.

Actually, JerkMax, if you had read my post, I already effectively indicated disclaimer to your smart ass reply. I only stated facts in my undirected/general response. I guess no one likes it pointed out that they have broken laws though... or more precisely, few like it pointed out that their justification for breaking laws is invalid.

I stated "As far as old Duke Nukem games, it can be bought... it is unfortunate the original makers can no longer benefit from this,..."

I will reword it as I was required to do in my job often...
"Because I don't want to check to see if this game can be legally purchased (or don't care even if it can), beyond the GOG site, can I illegally share it through this site because I want other people to have this great game too? It isn't illegal because it is abandonware now there is no one to catch me giving it away."

That is what was basically said. (wow, that was harsh!)
I could be more precise, but I am busy at the moment.

This is unreleated to your desire or decision to give away something you don't own. The rules of this forum say to respect copyrights. Nothing wrong with that. It is the owners decision.

I didn't call you a thief. I just pointed out your desire to share something you don't own the rights to share was illegal and immoral. Nobody wants to hear that as I stated above... being pissy is a normal reaction, but screw you as well.

I didn't call you ignorant either, in fact my post was an effort to clarify what some of the legalities were... like there is no such thing as Abandonware. I included examples of my experience with these issues.
I am ignorant how 3D Modeling works for instance. I am ok with that... no harm done, and I can learn should I wish to, with or without application. Ignorant is not necessarily bad anyway.

While we are learning together here, you might refrain from telling moderators what they can do. Most of the time they don't like being told what to do... like anyone. They can actually close or delete the topic whenever they want... or make it a sticky and other stuff. :P

Too bad this thread was so negative for you though... but I can understand why. You didn't get what you want, and no one backed your request to give away something you don't own the rights to. You seem to believe you are "right" if their is a right or wrong in this instance, or the reaction would not have been so harsh I guess.

<hands you a software eyepatch> Good luck pirate! ARRRGGH! :P
