I think with Duke is that he only looks like he gets with a lot of women because he is primarily found in places with loose women, and these are usually willing to sleep with any man provided he has the cash or something else they want. Also, there are loads of women in real life who find it thrilling to sleep with dangerous men, and I wouldn't be suprised that 'the bigger the star, the bigger his percieved sex appeal.'
But stick him in any place outside of strip joints and whorehouses, and he'll be met with a look of disgust at his piggishness.
Also, he might be a man's fantasy, but for women he exibits some really undesirable traits. He gets angry easily, and he sleeps around with a lot of women (which makes him a huge risk for disease.) Plus he is too overly muscled to be attractive. If he was pictured as high normal (well muscled, but not bodybuilder) then he'd ultra sexy. But he's to the point of grotesque, and if that's what guys think most women would swoon over, then they're in for a surprise.

Dude, you are either gay or you're a woman because your critics are exactly the ones that I would expect to hear from a woman.
I'm not really sure if he's the kind that goes to whores. The way I see him, he's likes to give money to cheap dancers as a sign of disrespect towards them, since he is too cool and has much higher standards than them.
He just has a short visual pleasure and then dismisses the dancers.

Ah, you do make some very fine points. I haven't thought of it that way, as most of the fan hoopla on some other sites seemed focused on what Duke will do with the various women, rather then on his coolness aspects.

And yes, I agree that many "fans" obsess over the subject of Duke and women in general.
As a true Duke 3D fan, I know better.
Duke Nukem embodies that guy that doesn't need a wife and he rather have a new girl all the time.
Remember "I go where I please, and I please, where I go" one liner.
His character is so macho that he doesn't need to care about beautiful women, he can just have any girl because they are all obsessed with him.
It's actually very interesting to imagine how a girl like you manages to like Duke Nukem.
If he actually existed and he ever went past you, if he liked you he would probably slap your ass and ask you something like " Hey baby, wanna dance"
Duke Nukem seems to only like wild girls that like to party hard.
Duke's definitely not the kind of man that would like/could ever be liked by girls that are patiently waiting for the right person to marry or "make love" to

Mr.D, I think the reason I like Duke Nukem is that he has a 'personality.' Unlike many other action heros, he stands out, and I always liked hearing his snarky one-liners whenever he comes across something interesting. And I also like him because I've been in the military, and the love of playing around with bullet-based weaponry (even if it's just mostly on a computer now) has never left me.

While this subject is kinda a silly thing, I gotta throw in my two-cents because my experience with this has always been a bit unusual.
When I first played Duke3D, I was a naive little twerp for a teenager. Though I loved gorefests, I hardly ever cussed, never drank, never did drugs, wasn't into porn, and generally wasn't into girls at all. Not that I was homosexual or anything, but just the whole concept of dating, sex, etc bored me, because there just wasn't enough there (especially in my school) to interest me - I never had Pamela Anderson on my ceiling, or hid playboys under my bed, etc.
Then one day one of my friends showed me Duke3D and played through Red Light District. For some reason, I was absolutely blown away. The interactivity, the details in the lighting, the foul-mouthed Duke, and the little inside jokes (The OJ video clip on TV had me laughing like crazy). And there was something that just meshed perfectly well together in my mind, about the idea of a gun fight with aliens in the middle of a strip bar with the music pumping.
I bought the game shortly thereafter and got a huge kick out of it. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, even though I was a complete priss at the time, I absolutely loved the Duke character. Duke more or less represents my first personal journey into the dark side of adulthood. Where if anyone else had acted like Duke I probably would've hated them for their behavior, for some reason I couldn't help but smile at the guy and his antics. And I still get just as much of a kick out of it today.
I just hope "Forever" hasn't lost that touch.
