I'm about to buy an ATI...

Yeah, I want to upgrade and I want something powerful but cheap and quiet without using too many watts from the power.

So I have in mind an ATI 5870. I've heard ATI has problems with Eduke32. Does anyone know if this card in particular is bad for it? It's really important to me to keep using mapster32.

As long as you use the 10.5 drivers you will be fine.
Anything above this will give you stupid white textures and make certain shadows go away.

The white squares are only a problem if you use the blurry texture filters (like bilinear or trilinear).

I would still stick to the 10.5 driver as I know how important lighting and shadows are is to his project.

No point getting 5870 as 6870 is almost as fast (and consumes less power) and much cheaper.

Polymer runs like shit though but I'm guessing it's the case with both cards.

I'm jumping from an 8800 GT, so I don't need an over the top card for now. I've got a quad core extreme 9650 that is still powerful.

Has anyone tried throwing in old opengl libs into the duke3d folder to see if that fixes the problem?

Yeah, but the GTX570 is an high-end card from Nvidia, and the HD 6870 not.

Lets wait for the 6970 and 6990 :D
