#1

Hello everyone, first of all, sorry for the bad english, I am brazilian

There are here my two maps
Both a DM maps

CNG-Mansao , I finished it today =D , it was inspired in a old map called Mansion, what is to me, the best DM map.
This map have some strategies to follow, it isn't  just " take the gun and shoot "

CNG-DM , it was created in 2004, this is "take the gun and shoot"  ;D

test it and please, do a commentary

here are some screens of the first map:

Jeez... can't test this ingame since I don't play DM in Duke anymore, but I have several advices regarding their design.
Your geometry and layout look quite decent, but these maps are somewhat overscaled (particularly stuff like doors and furniture). Also, the atmosphere suffers from poor lighting. Refuse "bulky" shading and shade each surface individually; try to make it realistic-looking, but take note that light switches may fuck up fine shading.
I see you rely on just a couple of textures too much (gray and brown stone), what is definitely not good for maps. Give them more variety.
You should write a text file with some info about the map as well.

first of all
sorry for the bad english :(

I agree with your criticizes
but I have some view points here
literally
the screens was printed in xduke, using Meltdown, that is a multiplayer software for duke
compared with eduke32, it lost some quality in image

about the overscaled,
it depends of your objective
DN is a fucking hero that runs and jumps unreally
if you play counter-strike ( more realistic but more slowly ) and after play duke
you get a big difference, in duke you have much much more action and RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) :(

my objective in this map is death match
so, if I did every wall and door like reality or the height of duke
it would suffer in the game play

I tried to make a playable DM map and some realistic, like this mansion map
because we have much non-senses maps just like "take the gun and shoot".

anyway
I hope who test it
enjoy the map

But thanks for your criticizes
I will consider it in next map
specially in lighting and brown and gray stone ( I really likes them ) *.*

Sorry
But I don't create a SM version,
because the map looks like an arena
and you circle the map very fast

I fixed some objects that disappeared in the map
as the light switch in the kitchen

I will update the link

I putted new screens here on top

I suggest with your next map that you make it for single player, it will make more people play it.

Don't feel discouraged. The opposite is true. Over the years the bar has been raised to an extremely high level. But there are still new mappers coming out with maps that are far more than just acceptable. I admit that some of them are a little overrated by the reviewers in terms of the absolute score but it's hard to achieve a 'correct' order without a new ranking system.

I second that.

About the scale: you should reconsider. The oversized doors are an obvious drawback.
Btw. pressing F12 will give you an in-game screenshot.

And use eduke32 when doing that with a DECENT screen resolution.

Because you shouldn't be using MS paint...

Use this instead, http://www.getpaint.net/

If it's only about converting I strongly recommend IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com

Gimp is pretty good too. Don't know if it supports TGA files but I should think so.

lol, seeing that an image converter discussion has started here, I'd say that FastStone Image Viewer is most usable imo.

AnibiS_canog: I actually remember MANSION.MAP as well. If it's the map I think it is, I can definately see a few similarities with the large open opens with the staircases and the fountains and the kitchen with stuff in it. :(

Looking over the map has made me think more over how to approach my mansion-theme map I have planned down the road [it'll be one of the maps in my Naferia's Reign modification, but NR is meant as Single Player, and thus no DM support, and it'll be a large-as-hell map with some twists once it's done @_@].

However on critique, I do agree the doors and the sizes are a bit overdone. The doors alone are a good example as someone pointed out earlier. Other than that, it's not too bad a map, even though I don't play DM. I do still skim some maps that are DM-intended from time to time.

I haven't played the other map, I got the mansao map due to it's mansion-like structure. >.>;

I only recommend paint.net because it does not have long start up times like other image editors and is rather user friendly with it's extensive plugin database.
