Can you not just do what I've done many a time and pre-order the game from the internet somewhere? It generally gets delivered to me no later than the day before the retail release, sometimes a couple days before.

It doesn't have to make sense. I posted in hot anger.
More along the lines that I won't buy it any where near release since I won't know what singleplayer will be like. I want to know that I am not paying $50 for a 10 hour game that is really built around multiplayer. A good singleplayer demo will introduce the basic premise of the game and I might get an idea of how long the game is or how much I'd play it (ie replay value without mods). Too many devs rely on MP to preserve the life of a game (which allows them to keep the price up).

I'm reserved on paying money for games these days because I'm poor and I've spent money on games that turned out to suck. I want to see that trailer. It is really hard for me to get excited about DNF right now...you can't get excited about the girl you had a crush on in high school at your 15 year reunion...you have moved on well beyond the bubbly teenage crush stage. I need to see the goods.

I highly doubt that anything in Russia is cheaper. Although, I don't know how much the "girls" cost.

PC games* are, but because they have crappy russian dub etc. New console games are being sold for like $80.
* -oh, and by the way. Some games Steam doesn't sell for russians because of our idiotic publishers. Thank Beelzebub, I was able to buy Civ5 before it was taken off from Steam 4 days after the release.

The point I'm trying to make is that after 14 years you can't just shout out "We have DNF" and get me to buy it. I need to know more and I don't want some washed out poorly made POS after waiting 14 years for a game.

It's funny how people transform so radically after big news.
Before all of these "DNF is getting released" news, videos etc, you seemed to be somebody that criticize people that called DNF bad and you labeled them trolls.
You were acting so mature and secure and now all you do is post like one of the people that you used to call trolls.
Why don't you fucking get a chill pill and stop whining for once.
I don't understand how you are contributing when you are posting things like "I don't want some washed out poorly made POS after waiting 14 years for a game" DUUH.
How useless is that sentence right there? Are you under the impression that any of us want a washed out poorly made POS after many years of wait?
Also, do you think that anybody will claim that his work is a POS?
What you call a piece of shit, might seem very good or even perfect for somebody else.
If you fear something, then list the elements that you fear in DNF instead of saying you don't want the game to be a POS.
The game will not be a POS because after I've seen the demo, shots taken from the trailer, gameplay at Jace Hall, leaked gameplay from 2009, I wasn't even once given the sensation that the game will be a POS...
Sure, I felt that the game might not be on par with today's games but never did I expect it to be a POS.
If you are a Duke Nukem fan, why can't you just forget the technological progress that happened since Duke3D and just try to see DNF as a sequel to Duke3D and not a competitor to crysis or w/e.
It's 100% guaranteed that the game will AT LEAST look better than Duke3D with polymer and HRP.
Duke3D is a fun game even today even with it's shit graphics but when played with polymer and hrp it becomes fucking awesome.
When you feel paranoia striking that tells you, you've waited so long for DNF and it's going to suck, don't forget one important thing!
The DNF game is made by the people that made Duke3D and George has spent 20-30 mil bucks out of his own pocket just so he gets the ambient he desires in the game!
What makes you think that the guys which made DN3D so good, would fail to achieve another Duke game that's at least as good as Duke3D if not better?
To me, the idea that DNF is going to have everything that Duke3D's ambient had and everything that Duke3D's ambient was supposed to have but couldn't because of tech limitations, is almost a fact!

How can you doubt that DNF is going to have lots of personality when the 2 key guys that made Duke3D so good, slaved over DNF and spent their OWN money LOTS of their own fucking money on it?

You clearly are confusing me with someone else. I've always been reserved about DNF even coming out nonetheless being a good game. Having low expectations has been my life for some time and pretty much my existence on these forums.

And that is supposed to make me want the game? I've never once said that I desire great graphics. How is looking better supposed to make the game worthwhile? Duke3D was behind graphically when it came out and it still sold better. I enjoy Duke3D because of the game mechanics and the levels and the character. It is a fun game.

It hasn't been made by the people who made Duke3D. I think there is only a small percentage of people on the team of this generation of DNF that worked on Duke3D. Maybe the numbers have gone up since it moved to Gearbox but most of the people who made Duke3D have moved on.

And...credibility completly gone.
It should be added that I never said that the game will suck but that it could suck. I used the Optative there for a reason. We don't know much about the game. There is no trailer and little bits of information. Sure, we have more than we did even when 3DR closed up shop, but unless I'm missing something, there isn't a whole lot of information about the actual game (how it plays, the levels, etc).

Many people seem to forget or never knew this fact. But even so it's come a long way since then with us running it at resolutions, art assets, tech, etc that we could only dream of when it first came out. Anyway It's probably a good idea to keep ones expectations low when it comes to DNF even now considering its history. It seems like suddenly a lot of people have forgotten it when Gearbox came in. If it comes out I'll probably at least give it a try if not then *shrug* just another day all the same. It's hard to know how it plays though unless you get your hands on it but what I've seen so far looks good.

I just keep saying this, however developer studios doesn't believe and just hire more ppl to do graphics and all what I hear from ordinary players is jabber about "awesome graphics" which is nothing else but glossy fart. See at gameplay/graphics ratio of WoW and Age of Conan, WoW still has milions of subscribers and AoC servers are slowly shutting down.
#52 Posted 13 October 2010 - 01:47 AM
The Build engine was quite good. And i remember many many magazines and players giving DUke graphics the edge over the grainy, colorless Quake graphics ( remember that GL quake came out in 97)

Dear lord. It's a computer game. Try the demo, play it at a friend's house or whatever, if you like it, buy it. If not, don't. It's not like it'll be some huge tragedy if you don't like it.
#58 Posted 13 October 2010 - 06:59 PM
I want a demo and I will decide if I will pay for the game or not based on that and what people (real people, not game raters on sites) say about it.
