Dharga

I am trying to open an old map in Mapster32 – no luck. ;)

Map in question – Dharga. And can be found under D at the link below.
http://dukeworld.duk...world/maps/a-e/

Neither the original nor the one I modified opens up, but they play in the game. But with limits, some gates no longer open?!? Any suggestions, besides dumping?

this is the text file printed by mapster32:
Using C:/Duke3dWork/ for game data
Windows 7 (build 6.1.7600) w/ nedmalloc.dll
Initializing DirectDraw...
Loading "m32help.hlp"
Initializing DirectInput...
- Enumerating attached game controllers
- No game controllers found
Uninitializing DirectInput...
Initialized 16.0M cache
Loading NAMES.H
Read 765 lines, loaded 737 names.
Enabling desktop composition...
Setting video mode 800x600 (8-bit windowed)
Loading sounds from 'game.con'
Loaded 330 sound definitions.

... and than it crashes.

Now I loaded one of mine. Bigger, higher resolution, but no crash.

Back to the old map. I got the same map from my old files. That one opened. Is it possible to get a corrupt map by saving it? I know this sounds stupid, but are there different methods to saving a map within the program?

I'm too lazy to look and check, but this probably uses the same hack Pascal Rouaud used in the last two or so Roch maps. Basically, you just open the map in a hex editor and move the contents really far off the Build/Mapster32 grid. This makes the map playable in game, but difficult to look at in an editor.

Ehmm, no clue what this hack is supposed to be. ;) One of his ideas not to be able to edit those famous maps of his? I wonder if I should hack back and edit the hex? Nah- Who cares. Anyways, mine is reverse, it plays but cannot be opened in Mapster. So like in the old 'Build' days, backup your back ups and back-up some more. ;)
