Pax demo confirmed that the game is spoiled for me.  "remember some leaked info from 3d realms ?"

There was a leakage of some files from 3d realms last year.
Expect from screenshots, the whole game plot was revealed.

A board with all the levels, their names, what's happening on them, how they start, how they end,and what scripted events take place.

Guess what was written for Level 1...

Quote

Duke plays his own videogame beating the Cycloid emperor while having sex with the Holsom twins in the Lady Killer Casino penthouse suite prior to his Talk Show interview

New skills: Basic Navigation,Use items.
Weapons given: RPG,Devastator,pipe bombs.
Level exit: defeat the Cycloid Emperor.

As you can see,the leaked info was real. The whole game plot is out there, and I read it before I know it's real, and I now know how the game ends and how many levels there are.
I regret reading it... :)
I know every single detail about it without having play it.

I don't post the link to the board here because I don't want to spoil it to others too.
If someone doesn't belive me and is brave enough to take a look at it p.m. to give you the link.

So the reason I created this thread is
a) to make known that the whole game plot is out there on the net.
:) how it made me feel reading it again after the PAX demo.
c) to ask if other people have also read this leaked info and what was their feelings when they realised that the level played at PAX is the very same level 1 from the leaked boards.

I read it as soon as it was out, and still have a copy, and I don't really care, its been so long I have forgotten most of it, I will always know how the game starts, but that's no big deal, and I'm pretty sure lots has changed, even if it isn't I don't care.

The smartest thing that I ever did when I got all the leaked plot files was to have a paranoid second thought about reading it JUST IN CASE the game ever comes out.
I guess paranoia helped me big time!
I knew DNF was toast by that point and I was almost sure it won't ever come out, or if it would the entire story would be different.
The only thing I've managed to spoil is the intro but now that I know the game plot hasn't changed, I will first play it and then read the plot to see how much of the plot is still reflected in the final game.

Even reading a plot doesn't let you interact with the environment. Which is probably going to be the main selling point of the game. So , no biggie.

I read it when it went online...I deeply regret it! I'm trying to forget it since then...and I already forgot the most except the ending!

Well if you guys remember what Gearbox got was a bunch of unfinished stuff... Maybe and I mean MAYBE they changed some things, which is probably the case. So don't get discouraged guys. I'm sure there will be lots of awesome things in DNF for everyone, having read the plot or not.

I don't mind. It's like watching a movie based on a book or short story.
For example, I've read "Lord of the Flies" countless times before seeing the movie(s). Could still enjoy the movie while knowing all characters and events. Same for LOTR, The Shining, Kite Runner, No Country for Old Men. A Clockwork Orange, The Godfather, To Kill a Mocking Bird, One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, etc etc.

Didn't know anything about the plot being leaked, and am glad. I can still go into this game relatively 'naked' and to see most of it for the first time when I play it. To put it mildly, I'm so fucking glad about this. Sucks to be any Duke fan who's already read the plot.

Its an interesting perspective to have, to be sure.

I wont be dissappointed if the game is verbatum what was in the outline. Im just excited to play.

Especially because the plot outline is very "straight and basic"

Like an example, using Duke3D would be:

"E1L1 Hollywood Holocaust : After crashing down in his stolen space ship, Duke has to find a way off the roof, explore the local patch of road, and enter a movie theatre, he can find a jetpack behind a theatre screen, blast through an arcade, and a bathroom. Cacooned babe is hidden upstairs in the projector room. Level exits at an elevator leading to E1L2 : Red Light District.
New Weapons/Items : Boot, Pistol, Shotgun, Chaingun, RPG, Pipebomb, Jetpack, Holoduke, medikit, night vision, body armour, steroids.
"

It doesnt exactly give you nessacarily an idea of what the specific experience is going to be like. That could be good or bad when broken down to its base elements. :)

True enough. But you'd basically know what all the settings/environments/bosses/etc were going to be. This would equal partial-ruination for me.

I'll hope that the Mince-car-chase is still in the game. It's one of my favorite-scenes.

If you can spoil an action video game by reading about it then it sucks big time.

Well you know the one part of the game where Duke goes on Jeopardy and Alex Trabek and he have to kill the alien bastards trying to kidnap the queen of Jeopardy? That's probably making it into the final game. Haha.

I read the plot and stuff, I forget most of it. I just remember the beginning and bits of what else is going on so it's no big. I'll be happy with DNF either way. Every day.

After level one, DNF is played on a Vectrex emulator. Awesome vector graphics, y'all!

I know every single detail about it without having play it.

Everyone knew the leak was real... it was downloaded from the portfolio of the designer after all...

Many people, myself included believed something would happen and DNF would end up seeing the light of day eventually. For that reason, I chose to download it and keep it, but not read it. At least, not read it until it seemed impossible for it to ever come out. I can happily say I'm glad I chose not to read it.

Having said that, I don't think you really spoiled that much... I mean, come on, Duke is more about the experience than the story... you'll still have just as much fun playing even even with knowing the plot and such. Just don't read it again :)...

I gave it a quick overlook when i found it but i don't know how long after the leaked info was released. but i gave it such a quick light read that i only remember the beginning.

One of the rare times being awful at reading pays off.

CONFIRMATION:

The DNF plot has been altered!

There was no mention of the 3 titties alien queen and space levels in the plot! But both are in the new DNF now! ;)
