A program that I cannot find...  "...yes its related to Duke."

Im trying to find a particular program that I was using for awhile that I cant find now. I was using it to important models from MS3D and rename the frames for export to .md3. It saved me the immense trouble of having to rename the frames manually. It allowed playback and looping of the animation, etc.

The problem im having is I cannot remember the name of the program. It wasnt Blender.

I downloaded and tried out Misfit, Blender and Gmax at the same time.

Misfit was the easiest to use in the beginning and I just stuck with it. The other 2 had too many features and totally confused me.

That's a winner! It uses C++, is OpenGL and QT. Now if anyone is actually willing to tell me the secret of getting a model into the Duke game, we could make our very own plug-in with/for Misfit. That name is misleading. It may be simple to use but that shows the creators' genius. I contacted the guys there, there has not been an update in over a year, hopfully I'll get feedback.
Either way, is(are) there any features you like to see in Misfit? Since it’s written on a solid base and very clearly for once, everything is possible.

Just in case, I don't like Blender, yes it's open source but also comes with Python shcabuddle ( new word), no thanks – you do it. True Space is toast and 3D Max is too expensive for an open source game. GMax - no clue, didn't bother.

As I wrote before, I learn something new here every day. What a clever program Misfit is. Unbelivable!! ;)

Since there are so many free use 3DS models out there, it would be great to be able to import them in Misfit. Right now I have to use NPherno's md3 compiler program to convert them to md3's first.

And I don't know if its a problem with NPherno or Misfit, but many 3DS to md3 model conversions with as little as 5k-10k polys or so will not re-save in Misfit as md3. An error message pops up saying something like "too many vertices on a single face for md3" or "too many faces in a single group for md3" . According to the readme file included with the program, none of the md3 limits are being reached by these models. A very frustrating error.

But I still love the program.

That's good to know to start focusing. Just keep it coming! One's I know what the original makers are up to, we can start a humble distribution, with whatever needs fixing being in it. ;) I think I cancel my mapping curier! ;) I never had one, they sucked.

We need a button so I can track this thread

Also, can you give me a link where to find large models? Thanks - yes, I'm that lazy ;)

I read through the release notes. He may have addressed that problem already. Do you work with the latest mm3d-1.3.8? If not try that for now.

You can rename the frames automatically when exporting MD3s from MilkShape 3D.

You just had to edit the output file with all the surface data and add the animation names and counts, I can't recall how it exactly it went but I'll check it if you can't find it.

Is that a request? If yes, what exactly gets moved from where to where? The way the guy wrote the program it could support md5 files and anything below, so it can work for most games methinks. You too, let me know what features this community needs. It's all there. And we certainly can parse an outputfile in this Misfit program, and do what you did, automatically, with a mouse click, but first I need to know what you did! ;)

Hank: Yes I am using the latest 1.3.8 version.

I just do a google search of "free 3D models" and a bunch of sites come up.

I think The 3DStudio.com is one place to get some. They are mostly in max and 3ds format. Others have some in obj and md3 but not as many.

http://ioquake3.org/extras/models/

for all the other modelers out there ;)

Also, Google gives a horde of commercial models, and forums for othere peeps who are looking for md3 models for free.

To Marked, I got one of the larger models, APE with like 4MB. This means actually very little, but when you got a moment, either PM me ( if it's private ) or let me know how big the model is/was and if the model exceeds any of the limits set by Misfits. Basically you can go very high, but that was a year ago. How high do you need it to go?
