THE EDUKE32 VERSION THAT WORKS IN MP!  "Tested with Yang for error free online gameplay!"

Commando Nukem and I have found an older EDuke32 version that works perfectly for multiplay with NO out-of-sync errors and NO crashes! But one issue using Yang at times wont let players connect at first. But there's a simple work-around for this. The host will have to check or uncheck the P2P/Master/Slave mode option, let the game launch even if the setup shows an error and the connection fails. You then quit the game, go back and toggle the P2P/Master/Slave again, then start the game. We then have a multiplayer game that runs for hours with no problems!
I have posted the EDuke32 log file below for more info. Let the games begin, online!!

How will this effect maps/mods made with newer versions eDuke32? Or multiplayer with Polymer? Or multiplayer with DukePlus?

This version is from the end of 2008, no Polymer.

DukePlus hasnt worked with any version of EDUKE32 online that I have tested. It always desyncs pretty much immediately. No matter what we've done.


Newer versions of Eduke32 do not work near well enough online. Water desync is pretty terrible in new versions... etc.

Fair enough, just don't complain about it or anything if you know it's development code. That's like driving down an unfinished highway, running over all the Mexicans out there paving it and complaining that the ride was bumpy afterward. :(

Who's complaining? Its broken. Thats not a complaint, its just a statement of fact. What we're trying to do is simply show people how to continue to play with Eduke32 for the time being.

I know jack about code. What I do know is EDuke32 1.5.0devel 20081230 works for MP games, plain and simple!

I dont know how many times I have to tell people this, but DukePlus will never work correctly online till DeeperThought rewrites some code that is causing the desync issues.

Aw DT, don't knock yourself out over it buddy, we can still enjoy your mod in sp. No doubt, we all would like to play it in mp since the fact is it's such an awesome mod for Duke. We will try your latest update and hope for the best!

DP! has a better chance of running on the new server/client mode than the old method. But as we know, the new system still has PLENTY of bugs and doesn't even work correctly in vanilla MP with the last revision I tried.

I downloaded yang, found the ancient version they are talking about and there are a grand total of 4 people playing Duke online :( They are all playing DukesterX, and not even the same version so nothing would work anyway. Sigh.

Just thought i'd bump this due to the new surge of folks coming in asking about playing Eduke32. Currently the latest builds of Eduke32 do not give the best experience with multiplayer, and we all understand life. Reality takes presedence over a game on the internet.

Playing with YANG/MELTDOWN and the version of Eduke32 listed in this thread is the absolute way to go. Vinny and I play for extended marathons, multiple game modes, and we never have a problem.

Open your ports. Use this version of Eduke32, pick a provider (Yang or Meltdown) and kick some ass.

Hello, is there any chance that this will get fixed? I hoped maybe for christmas I will be able to play multiplayer Eduke with Polymer engine:) That would be awesome! It is my dream to play coop against monsters with my friends in this great new graphics...

Not only will this be fixed, it will be made even better! The reason why current builds aren't working with MP at the moment is because the eduke32 developers started replacing the old 1990's code with awesome modern code with numerous enhancements. For example, games will never go out of sinc (which used to be a problem sometimes), people can join-in in the middle of games already in progress instead of everyone having to join at the start, and now people can play the host's map, without everyone having download a copy of the same map. And I'm sure there are many other improvements.

But it's still unfinished and all great things take time. The developers have to compete for time with real life and other bugs which take priority. But this port has existed in one form or another for about 10 years, they're not going to quit with something as big as multiplayer or the polymer renderer unfinished :rolleyes:

XDuke can hardly support 8 players without major lag, and you want polymer? Especially considering how horribly optimized it is and will be for at least a few years. Polymost is bad enough. A game that will never go out of sync eventually is impossible. I honestly don't see what's the point of fixing the netcode in EDuke32; its just going to break again once another huge entry is made. Not to mention the major yang addicts that you see online every day aren't going to care for it.

That's the point of the new netcode; there's no such thing as sync. Games don't go out of sync, ever.

My guess is that instead of going out of sync, we'll just see a lot of modern issues, such as "ghosting," lagging, etc?

Yes, exactly. For low-latency high-bandwidth games both approaches should really work fine, but for the sync-based code the slightest bug in the netcode could (and does) mess up a perfectly good game, making it very frustrating. It also adds ingame joining, dedicated servers, etc.

Is version 2008130 still the way to go for stable mutliplayer?
I don´t need polymer or High def. I don´t need the ability to join game in progress.
Is the latest builds (current version from July 2010 or 2011 builds) stable enough for multiplayer or will there still be issues?
