First I thought it was a hoax and Wikipedia has been heavily edited/vandalized.
So I waited about 2 days to be sure no false info posted.

Wendy said on Dio's official site:

"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

Dio died at 7.45am (CST) on May 16, 2010.

Wendy Dio said on Ronnie's official site:

"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

His passing was met with confusion amongst fans, with Facebook and Twitter users spreading rumours of his death as early as the 15th of May 2010, partly due to prior death rumours about Dio. When Blabbermouth.net contacted Wendy Dio at 11:35 p.m. PST on Saturday, May 15, she said the following;

"I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing good, but he is not dead. "I will let you know if anything changes. "Thank you for your concern."

However, Blabbermouth.net, along with many other websites who had posted to the contrary, retracted prior statements and confirmed Dio's death.

I did not know much of anything about DIO until tonight when I saw a bunch of messages on facebook in regards to his passing. Seems I had heard some of his work without even realising it. (Im not too musically cultured)

Quite sickening the rumors that seem to generate in the wake of tragedy too, or in this instance prior to tragedy.

Best of wishes to his friends and family, it seems yet another legend has passed on...

Yes, very sad indeed. I have been a great fan of Dio starting with his early band Elf. His voice is a one-of-a-kind like no other. He will be missed, r.i.p. Ronnie James Dio.

You can check out the offical fan site here. But even if you don't care, or just not a Black Sabbath/Dio fan, the news page articles are written by someone we all know well. :(
Seems he's got a new job there at...

According to people Dio was a very nice man and friendly to his fan.

He was lucky to have a wonderful and supportive wife Wendy Dio.

VinsaneOne: Just wanted to say that Joe has been controlling Black Sabbath's site for many moons, it's not a recent job :(

And yeah RIP Dio of course.

Always thought that first 3 Rainbow albums was wonderful with 'Rising' being pretty fantastic. Later I would found out Dio was singing there when someone asked if I was a Dio fan because of liking those 3 albums.
