Duke Nukem 3D Wikipedia entry

I just stumbled upon the Duke Nukem 3D wikipedia entry, and it carries nothing of the windows ports / HRP pack and enhancements. I would think some basic mention and links should belong on there, shouldn't it?

I thought about modifying the page myself right away, but a. it's really late (early) here and got to go to bed, and I don't think I know the exactly timeline of the different enhancements. Thus, I'm not sure if I can do a proper modification.

Eh, need new glasses? There's plenty of stuff under Source code.

I like occasionally visiting Duke's wiki entry if only for the sake of reading that snippet from Media Watch under 'controversy'.

Quote

Duke Nukem 3D moves the 'shooter' through pornography stores, where Duke can use XXX sex posters for target practice. Duke throws cash at a prostituted woman telling her to 'Shake it, Baby' his gun ever ready. In the game bonus points are awarded for the murder of these mostly prostituted and partially nude women. Duke blows up stained glass windows in an empty church or goes to strip clubs where Japanese women lower their kimonos exposing their breasts. Duke is encouraged to kill defenseless, often bound women.
— Media Watch, Teaching Boys To Kill

"Teaching boys to kill" was a really ironic title since that paragraph on it's own has the literacy level of an eight year old.

This is the most offending to me:

Quote

Duke Nukem makes an appearance in the Build engine title Blood, as a hanging corpse in the Carnival of Souls level. Caleb, the main character, then parodies some of Duke's lines.

Carnival of Souls... really? It's the Dark Carnival, how can anyone mistake that?

Than it needs a new heading/title. Not to mention that the entries aren't in chronological order and it still misses the polymer renderer.

I love that Media Watch quote if only for the fact that it's completely wrong about the "bonus points" part. There are no points in Duke3D and he's certainly not "rewarded" for destroying the bound women. If anything, killing them causes more aliens to appear!

It's not exactly "rewarding" when you're playing on skill4 (Damn I'm Good).

Sometimes game devs have weird ideas... For example, completing bonus objectives in Command & Conquer: Renegade a) doesn't affect end-level score at all, b) usually results in more enemies appearing in the least convenient places, putting the player at a disadvanage, and c) only once through the whole game there's a bonus objective that, when completed, actually gives the player a new weapon and ammo for it.

There is one location that you need to sniper some Nod engineers or something working on an Obelisk of light, if you fail to kill them there and then, when you come back the Obelisk is in working condition. So not all of the bonus things have disadvantages.

I wonder what Media Watch would have to say about Shadow Warrior. Considering how off the mark they were about Duke Nukem 3D, they'd probably say stuff like:

"Shadow Warrior Lo Wang receives rewards necessary to complete the level by hoisting a Vietnamese soldier into a lava pit. He also takes part in the Singapore caning incident, blows up segments of downtown Japan with nuclear missiles, and is not punished for slaughtering the (female and unclothed) inhabitants of a stereotypical Shinto temple - in fact, he is expected to do so as they are armed with weapons, in spite of not wearing any clothes."

lol Nice Acker. "His gun ever ready" 1st Grade joke. :(

I think Media Watch would have a different opinion due to the Not America-ness of the game. :(

Pseudo-Media Watch said:

"Shadow Warrior Champions the battle for Woman's equality by having the female character of the game tell Lo Wang to 'go away from them' and shoot him with a gun when he peeps on them or uses lame pickup lines. Multicultural action is abound as Lo Wang battles his way through faux Asia, not-America. There's plenty of writing in that game we can't read so it must be educational, his gun ever at the ready."

That one's not a bonus objective, it's an optional secondary objective. Bonus objectives are called tertiary objectives in the game, and the only one that is of any use is the hidden weapons cache in the Black Hand Chateau.

Sorry for a slight off-topic-ness :(
